Approaches to Immanuel Kant in Vienna, in Austria and in Eastern Europe“) entstehen.

Welcome to the 12th International Kant Congress 2015 “Nature and Freedom”!
On behalf of the Kant Society and the University of Vienna we would like to warmly welcome our guests of the 12th International Kant Congress to Vienna who have come here from 45 countries and 5 continents. We are delighted to attract wide interest with this congress which examines the central theorems of Kantian philosophy in the context of “Nature and Freedom” in 14 plenary lectures, a ceremonial address and 27 main lectures held by outstanding international researchers as well as around 440 lectures in 21 sections with about 600 guests.
Furthermore, new edition projects on Immanuel Kant’s works, the project of the new Academy Edition, as well as the highly anticipated new Kant Encyclopedia will be presented.
At this congress, the International Kant-Preis of the Kant Society, funded by the Fritz Thyssen Foundation, as well as the Kant-Nachwuchspreis, funded by the Kant Society and the Fondazione Silvestre Marcucci, will be awarded once again. The laureate of the grand Kant-Preis is the British philosopher Baroness Onora O’Neill of Bengarve (Cambridge) and the laureate of the Nachwuchspreis is Henny Blomme (Natal/Leuven). Moreover, the Faculty of Philosophy and Education is awarding a Dissertation Award, nominated by the laureate Onora O’Neill, on the occasion of the International Kant Congress 2015 in Vienna. It goes to Katharina Kraus (Cambridge/Freiburg im Breisgau).
The 12th International Kant Congress will take place in the year of the 650th anniversary celebration of the foundation of the University of Vienna in 1365. Anniversaries are occasions for retrospection as well as future orientation. The retrospective question on the early reception of Kant’s works at the location of this year’s congress brought about the exhibition “Detours. Approaches to Immanuel Kant in Vienna, in Austria and in Eastern Europe“ which will open during the congress. It is accompanied by a comprehensive reader in German and English which we are happy to be able to present to our guests.
We would like to cordially thank our sponsors and all those who have opened important doors for us with their generous support. Without them, the congress could not have been possible in this form.
We wish all our guests exciting and inspiring days with Kant’s philosophy and the diverse topics which arise from the key terms of Kantian philosophy – nature and freedom. We anticipate with you many great lectures and new insights, as well as good conversations and encounters.
Cordially,
Bernd Dörflinger Violetta L. Waibel 1. Chairman of the Kant Society Scientific Congress Organization Professor of Philosophy at the Professor of Continental Philosophy at the University of Trier University of Vienna

Albrecht Altdorfer „Der Wiener Kreis.
The Vienna Circle, a group of outstanding thinkers, played an important part in Philosophy and science in the 1920’s and 1930’s: The group’s discussions and philosophical approaches set the cornerstones for important developments in a multitude of fields of science. The objects and documents mostly focus on the philosophical questions the Vienna Circle discussed: How can the efficiency of mathematics be explained? What is the role of logical propositions? What is the basis of scientific knowledge?
