STRATEGICALLY LOCATED TO SERVICE OFFSHORE,ONSHORE AND DOWNSTREAM PROJECTS FOR THE ENERGY SECTOR

Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, UAE, sees a positive industry outlook in the coming year, with ADIPEC being the perfect platform to share invaluable perspectives on the rapidly changing global energy ecosystem.

He said he has witnessed encouraging global economic signs – as well as concerns – about the impact of the Covid-19 Delta variant but is “reasonably confident” the global economy will gradually recover as we move into 2022… “and then accelerate, with global energy demand being restored as we move into the second half of 2022”.

The Minister said: “As energy consumption increases around the world, and global economic recovery gathers pace with the lifting of lockdowns, the need for [energy] supplies will continue to climb. Yet the pace of this recovery will likely be gradual and, therefore, require careful monitoring to ensure the industry bounces back fully from the impact of the pandemic.”

He said the energy industry has

risen to the challenges of Covid-19 and adapted swiftly in the face of accelerated energy transitions – along with the need to pay heed to sustainable, integrated energy value chains and net zero emissions.

Al Mazrouei suggests we will see a much more diversified energy mix globally in 2022, and beyond.

Shaping the energy agenda

Tayba Al Hashemi, Chairperson of ADIPEC 2021 and CEO of ADNOC Sour Gas, agrees that the energy mix will diversify to meet future energy needs sustainably.

She said: “This year’s [ADIPEC] will provide the thought leadership, direction and strategies that will shape the strategic and policy responses for the oil and gas industry as it pivots to deliver more energy with fewer emissions.

“We have a great opportunity to bring together leaders from industry, government, finance and technology to share perspectives on how the low carbon energy landscape will evolve.

“There will be rich discussions on energy demand dynamics,

the impact of innovative climate navigation technologies like CCUS and hydrogen, shifts in government policy and the specific energy solutions required to succeed in the evolving global energy ecosystem.”

defining a new eraMeanwhile Tarek Rizk,

Schlumberger MENA President, said he views ADIPEC 2021: “as a turning point for transforming new concepts into actions,” adding that the focus on decarbonisation will define a new era in our industry.

Schlumberger is committed to net zero emissions by 2050, together with a decarbonisation plan that leverages technology to address operational emissions, customer emissions, and carbon-negative actions. The company is reducing operations emissions by turning to renewable power and electrifying its fleet. Across the MENA region, Rizk revealed the company’s use of solar panels for energy to light stimulation and rigless sites.

Schlumberger is also contributing to the In-Country Value (ICV) programme established by

ADNOC, in several ways, including developing further infrastructure in the UAE and investing in a state-of-the-art Centre of Excellence incorporating artificial intelligence and digital technologies to drive quality and efficiency.

addreSSing dual challengeS

Italian supermajor Eni CEO, Claudio Descalzi, said: “A change of pace in evolving the energy mix is essential.”

During ADIPEC, Eni will take the time to explain its two new divisions – Natural Resources, to develop the upstream oil and gas portfolio sustainably, and Energy Evolution, which supports the evolution of the company from fossil fuels to renewables.

Descalzi added: “Our new mission, inspired by the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), demonstrates the journey the company has undertaken to address the energy sector’s so-called dual challenge: to ensure access to efficient, reliable and sustainable energy for all, while reducing climate-changing emissions…”

road to recoveryDr Dawood Nassif, Chairman

and Chief Executive of Bahrain Petroleum Company (BAPCO), agrees with the sentiment that the energy sector will grow again next year, saying: “We think the road to recovery has already started and, going into 2022, we expect global economic growth on the back of the uptick in trade and manufacturing activities to have a positive spillover on the oil market and commodities in general.”

Dr Nassif said BAPCO sees a rise in new, disruptive technologies that are transforming the oil and gas industry. The company has recently launched a digital transformation strategy, investing in a new Innovation Centre, and a new Centre of Excellence at the BAPCO Oil and Gas Academy.

The halls of ADIPEC will clearly be buzzing – not only with the chance for industry movers and shakers to meet in person once again, but because there’s a clear wind of change sweeping through the industry – towards new, exciting technology change, and a bright sustainable energy future for all.

Positive winds of change sweeP through adiPecLeading energy industry figures agree that global energy demand will rise next year, bolstered by innovation, new sustainable practices and technological advancements

We have a great opportunity to bring together leaders from industry, government, finance and technology to share perspectives on how the low carbon energy landscape will evolve.
