Introduction

OVERVIEW

Media Gateway Panel ModuleS788

TheMedia Gateway™ is a communication panel module for the FireNET L@titude Fire AlarmControl Panel. Itprovides connectivity to a remotemonitoring center via Sur-Gard Fibro or dial-up. SIA is the recommendedformat for usage, but Contact ID is also supported. Transmission can bemade through one or two telephonelines, and/or IP through Ethernet. Standard reporting codes have been pre-defined, although the user maycustomize these codes through the Loop Explorer 2 programming application.

System Information

The System Information section of the panel GUI provides the following information about theMedia Gateway'sconfiguration.

Overview

Voice Evacuation Systems

The Voice Evacuation interface allows electronics to interface betweenMedia Gateway and VoiceAlert. Thisinterface provides an activation link between the panel and the voice evacuation systemwithout the use ofrelays. VoiceAlert can be enabled and disabled via LE2 or the panel GUI. Hochiki HMX firmware is required fortheMedia Gateway interface.

MCE (Graphics / Third Party)

TheMCE (Monitoring and Control Equipment) protocol is used to send events from theMedia Gateway to theconnected equipment. The purpose of this protocol is to allow a network of fire panels to share events and tomaintain a common list of active events with MCE devices. It also allows the sharing of configuration data andquerying the status of individual devices. Additionally, commands to perform control actions, such as silencebuzzer, can be sent fromMCE to the network of panels. MCE can be enabled and disabled via LE2 or the panelGUI.

This is a client/server protocol, based on a TCP/IPv4 connection. The “server” will be listening for connections. The “client” will connect to the “server” when it has data to send. TheMedia Gatewaywill act as a “server” andwill accept connections fromMCE deviceswhich will act as a “client”.

TheMedia Gateway IP settings can be configured using LE2 or the panel GUI for either DHCP or manualsettings. TheMCE will connect to theMedia Gateway using a direct TCP/IP link over Ethernet.

Central Station Reporting

Twomethodologies are supported for central station reporting: telephone dialing and Sur-Gard FIBRO(IP reporting). Two lines are supported for dialing. Sur-Gard FIBRO is a proprietary IP reporting format designedfor use with a Sur-Gard IP central station receiver. A combination of bothmethods is also supported, with oneacting as a backup for the other.

In any of the formats, the panel nodes are reported. For example, in a network systemwith 40 panels, only 1account number is required and the node that has the activation or restore will be reported in a separate field.

Codes reported to the central station are factory default fixed. In order to modify, refer to the Central StationReporting Tables. Reporting codes for SIA and Contact ID default to themost common options, but can becustomized. Central Station Reporting can be enabled and disabled via LE2 or the panel GUI.

4. Select whether toReport ByPoint (device) or by Zone. Zone reporting sends the same signal for allpoints in the zone, therefore the central station will not be able to differentiate between different points inthe zone. Point reporting providesmore specific location information.

When selecting to report by Point, Contact ID may not report points above 99 or loops in excess of 9accurately when Simple Reporting is selected. SIA is the preferred transmission protocol.

5. For each account (1-4),

l Select either Dialer or Sur-Gard FIBRO for the Transport Method.

If Dialer is selected, the phone line will be used. Set theAccount Number that will be used to identify the particularsite to which theMedia Gateway sends data. The account numbermust be between 4-6 digits. Set theReceiverPh# 1 of the receiver (monitoring station). An optional second number (Receiver Ph# 2) may be entered. Eachnumber can be up to 30 digits. If a pause is needed, insert a "," character. To wait for a secondary dial tone, insert a"w" character.

If Sur-Gard FIBRO is selected, the Ethernet will be used. Set theAccount Number that will be used to identify theparticular site to which theMedia Gateway sends data. The account numbermust be between 4-6 digits.

Additionally, a panel with more Sur-Gard FIBRO settings will appear. Enter the following information:l Enter a DSC IP Address. This is the IP address of the Sur-Gard FIBRO receiver. This should be obtainedfrom your central station.

l Enter the Local Port Number. This is the local port number of the Sur-Gard FIBRO receiver (3060). Thisshould be obtained from your central station.

l Enter the Remote Port Number. This is the remote port number of the Sur-Gard FIBRO receiver(3061). Thisshould be obtained from your central station.

l Select whether the connection is Supervised. When supervision is enabled, the panel monitors theconnection to the central station.

l Enter the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) Key, up to 32 characters.l Select Contact ID or SIA for theProtocol. This is the signalingmethod that will be used to transfer data to thereceiver (monitoring station).

If Contact ID is selected, select Simple orDetailed for Contact ID Reporting. Simple Reporting is ideal for up to 9SLC loops with nomore than 99 devices on any loop. Detailed Reporting is ideal for up to 12 SLC loops with nomorethan 255 devices on any loop.

l Choose the panel event types that theMedia Gateway will transmit to the receiver. This is user-configurable for anygiven setup. For example, it enables Account 1 to report alarms to one central station and Account 2 to report troublesignals to another station.

Account 2 can be used as a backup to Account 1 (and Account 4 as a backup to Account 3). To set an account as abackup, select Backup Reporting for Account 2 (or 4) and de-select all other event types. When a transmissionfails using the primary account, the panel will attempt communication using the backup account. This is commonlyused to configure reporting via phone line with ethernet backup tomeet the requirements of Section 41.3.2.8 of UL864 10th Edition.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Comms Trouble

TheMedia Gatewaywill have amissing trouble when the panel reboots. This is due to loss of communicationwhile both are initializing during the start-up procedure. The trouble will be present on the system untilcommunication is reestablished; so the trouble will likely remain during the entire time the panel is initializingloops (up to 20mins). After communication is established the trouble self-restores. So the installer should beaware that this is a normal part of the start-up process.
