Processing of Fresh Grapes
HARVESTING : The exports of grapes have grown during the past three years. The Government has not received any reports of grape producers and exporters having incurred heavy losses on export of grapes during the period.
PRE-COOLING An incentive of 7% is available on the export of grapes under the Merchandise Exports from India Scheme (MEIS). The Agricultural & Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), an autonomous organization under the administrative control of Department of Commerce, has been mandated with the export promotion of grapes.
PACKAGING :Promotion of exports of agricultural products like grapes is a continuous process. The Government is seeking to export grapes to newer areas/countries by filing Market Access Requests for Grapes with a number of countries. Under the Agriculture Export Policy, Pune, Nasik and Sangli districts of Maharashtra have been identified as a cluster for export-oriented production of grapes.
LOADING : APEDA has implemented Grape Net, which is a web-based service offered to the stakeholders for facilitating testing and certification of grapes for export from India in compliance with the standards identified by NRC Pune, on the basis of consultation with the exporters. Grape Net collects, stores and reports – forward and backward traces and quality assurance data entered by the stakeholders within the grapes supply chain in India.

PACKAGING
• Grapes packing
• In packing grapes, different types of containers are used: Lug boxes are most generally used, and the depth of the lug is varied according to a variety and consumer preference. Sawdust chest packs are used for grapes to be exported.
Grapes to be shipped as fresh are packed in wooden crates, then pre-cooled to about 40 ° F (4.4 °C) in railroad cars or refrigerated rooms. Grapes destined for immediate delivery are sometimes shipped without pre-cooling though they should be shipped in a refrigerated container.
Grape bunches can be arranged in different ways in the containers. In the stem-up pack arrangement clusters stems are in full view but packs are attractive. Fresh grapes can be packed in this manner with very little handling injury.
