Here, you can nd a variety of rich and diverse experiences packed in an easy and fast to get around city.

Cost of Living

Generally speaking, living in Hong Kong can be expensive, however living at CUHK is extremely aordable as on-campus hostels and meals at student canteens are heavily subsidised. The table below shows the approximate living costs at CUHK for an undergraduate in one term.

05FAQs

20

FAQs (1)

21

Q: What are the benefits of the exchange + internship program?

This “exchange + internship combo program” (as we call it at SHTM) provides

APU students with international experience in two dimensions: learning

experience at a top-ranking university in Hong Kong and work experience at a

five-star hotel belonging to one of the best hotel groups in the world. Moreover,

you can make the best use of the 3-month time lag between the end of your

semester-long exchange study at CUHK (typically around early December) and

the start of the following semester at APU (typically in next April).

FAQs (2)

22

Q: Do I have to participate in the internship program in HK?

No, you don’t have to. The internship is provided as an additional benefit. But if

you have other plans for those 3 months between two universities’ two

semesters, you can choose only to participate in the exchange study at CUHK. It

is your decision.

Q: Can I do the internship in Japan after the exchange study at

CUHK?

In principle, yes. You should seek advice from your APU academic advisor.

Whether or not the internship can be offered by a Hyatt hotel in Japan, however,

will be Hyatt’s decision.

FAQs (3)

23

Q: When and how do I apply for the Hyatt internship in Hong

Kong?

After you start your exchange study at CUHK in September, SHTM will

coordinate with Hyatt Regency Shatin and set an internship application time line.

You should follow the time line and submit your application form and other

required documents directly to Hyatt.

Q: Is the internship offer guaranteed if I submit my application?

No. In fact, you will go through a selection process conducted by Hyatt’s HR

team. If your qualifications meet Hyatt’s requirements, you will be offered an

internship job. Hyatt will handle your internship application the same as they

process other internship applications.

FAQs (4)

24

Q: Should I obtain a work visa for the internship in Hong Kong?

Yes. According to Hong Kong’s immigration laws, you are not allowed to take on

an internship job on an exchange student’s visa. But you can do an internship in

your status as an overseas student from APU. That’s why Hyatt will require you

to provide various documents and help you apply for a work visa from Hong

Kong’s Department of Immigration.

Q: Do I get CUHK course credit for my internship in Hong Kong?

No. As mentioned earlier, you will no longer be a CUHK exchange student when

you do your internship in Hong Kong, so you will not be able to gain course credit

for the internship. However, you can check with your APU academic advisor and

see if you are eligible to obtain APU course credit for the internship in Hong

Kong.

FAQs (5)

25

Q: Is the internship in Hong Kong paid?

Yes. You will get more details about this from Hyatt during your application

process.

Q: How about accommodation and insurance arrangements during

my internship in Hong Kong?

Hyatt does not offer housing for overseas interns. You will be responsible for

finding off-campus accommodation by yourself as well as make your own

health/travel insurance arrangements. At SHTM, we will do our best to help you

find accommodation.
