Entries are arranged under the followingcategories: general references on mental retardation, biochemistry in mentalretardation, care of the mentally retarded, chromosomal abnormalities inmental retardation, genetics in mental retardation, infectious diseases, in-toxication in childhood, mental testing, neurology of mental retardation, nutrition and mental retardation, pathology of mental retardation, psychologicaltreatment of mental retardation, psychology of learning, psychology of mentalretardation, syndromes in mental retardation, teratology, and traumatic mentalretardation. Wherever possible, the publication was examined.

Major sources, consulted include: Index Medicus, Mental Retardation Abstracts,National Library of Medicine Current Catalog, the data base of ERIC (EducationalResources Information Center, and the Library of the New York Academy of Medicine. The publications listed with an ERIC accession number are available in manycollege and university libraries, or can be purchased from:. ERIC DocumentReproduction Service, P. O. Box 190, Arlington, Virginia 22210.
