In your third year of classes, you will work with a faculty mentor to complete a highly advanced, applied research project -- a dissertation -- that studies a business problem, issue, or topic in great detail, giving you a depth of content knowledge as well as practical research skills.

The Doctor of Business Administration is an applied doctoral degree, focusing on business practices and strategies. It prepares experienced business professionals to advance in their careers through a deeper understanding of business practice and research. The degree also prepares candidates for careers as faculty members in colleges and universities.

Practical

Doctor of Business Administration classes are offered in monthly weekend classes to a cohort of students who take the same classes together for a three-year commitment. Between the monthly face-to-face class meetings, you will participate in activities and submit assignments in an online environment.

Doctoral faculty will choose the limited number of students admitted to this program through a highly selective process involving review of past education, writing samples, references and interviews. At entry, expectations for candidates’ quantitative and writing skills are high and will advance even further during the course of the program.

You will spend the first two years of your doctoral program studying:

• Current business strategies and the logic underpinning those strategies.

• Global and industry data and how to apply frameworks from different business disciplines to uncover useful trends.

• Advanced quantitative methods for conducting research on customers, competitors and industries.

• Leadership traits, skills, style and culture.

• Tools for making ethical decisions.

The program begins in September with a small group of high caliber students who will progress through the entire doctoral curriculum with you.

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater DBA has been approved by the University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents and is in the approval process with the Higher Learning Commission accrediting organization. Visit the website and provide us with your contact information. We will notify you when accreditation is complete and you may apply formally. At that point, you will be asked to supply original transcripts from your prior campuses, submit references and complete a Personal Statement of Purpose.

The expectation is that Doctor of Business Administration applicants will have:

• Completed a master’s degree in a business discipline.

• A minimum of six years of professional experience.
