Head Coach Cindy Meyer began her collegiate coaching career at Doane College in 1987 with a victory over College of St. Mary. Since that time, Meyer’s teams have gone to eight national tournaments while her program emphasizes outstanding fundamentals and team cohesiveness. Meyer is the winningest coach in Tiger volleyball history and she has coached seven conference players-of-the-year, 17 All-Americans, and 37 NAIA Scholar-Athletes.
Meyer’s early coaching days at Doane featured eight winning seasons and two national tournament berths in 1990 and 1994. In 1988, the Tigers won 37 matches, most in the Coach Meyer era and second-most in school history. The 1990 season saw Coach Meyer reached 100 career victories with a win over Washburn. In 1993, a victory over Midland Lutheran College gave Meyer win 200.
The Tigers had a down season in 1995, fi nishing 15-19. They came back the next season with a 26-win season and in 1997 they qualifi ed for the NAIA Tournament with a 32-win campaign. Meyer picked up win No. 300 against Hastings in 1997.
With the formation of the Great Plains Athletic Conference in 2000, the Tigers posted a fourth place fi nish. Two years later, Doane claimed their fi rst GPAC crown. They advanced to win the GPAC tournament crown, the NAIA Region IV title and qualifi ed for nationals. In addition to all that happened in 2002, Coach Meyer picked up win No. 400 in a victory over Hastings.
The Tigers missed the national tournament in 2003 and 2004 as they fi nished one spot away from an at-large berth. Meyer’s teams posted 25+ wins in each of those seasons with runner-up fi nishes in the GPAC. The Tigers returned to nationals in 2005 with an upset win over Hastings in the regional tournament. They took third place in the tournament as the region earned three bids to nationals. In 2006, Meyer picked up her 500th victory as a collegiate coach with a 3-0 victory over Dakota Wesleyan.

Doane returned to the national scene with an appearance at the NAIA Tournament in 2008. Doane placed fourth in the GPAC but used and come-from-behind victory over Hastings to cement their place in the tournament. Doane defeated Bethel (KS) in the NAIA Opening Round as the Tigers hosted their fi rst-ever national tournament game.
For the fi rst time in school history, Meyer and the Tigers returned to the NAIA Tournament. This marked the fi rst back-to-back appearance at nationals. The season opened with an upset of Biola University, a Final Four qualifi er in 2008. Doane tied for second in the GPAC and upset Morningside in Sioux City to advance to the GPAC Tournament fi nals and earned an automatic berth to nationals.
In 2010, the Tigers had several memorable moments. Midway through the year, Coach Meyer joined an exclusive club when her squad defeated Morningside for the 600th collegiate victory. Meyer is one of three coaches to accomplish the feat in the state of Nebraska, joining Terry Pettit (Nebraska) and Rosella Meier (Nebr-Kearney). The Tigers capped the season with a runner-up fi nish in the GPAC regular season & post-season and a trip to the national tournament.
Despite having one of the top overall records in the nation at 29-6, Doane was not able to advance to the NAIA National Tournament. The Tigers fi nished second in the conference with a 12-4 record and were 15-1 in games played on a neutral court.
Meyer, associate professor of physical education, earned a bachelor’s degree from Wayne State College and a master’s degree from Kearney State College (UNK). She began her coaching career at Ainsworth High School, where she led her teams to an 83-30 overall record and four state tournament appearances. Meyer has also established one of the premier summer volleyball camps, drawing hundreds of young student-athletes each year.

The History of the Great Plains Athletic Conference...The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) is an affi liated conference of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), consisting of 11 private, faith-based colleges and universities in Nebraska, Iowa and South Dakota. Originally founded in 1969 as the Nebraska Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (NIAC), the league retains fi ve of the six charter members - Concordia, Doane, Hastings, Midland and Nebraska Wesleyan. In 1992, the NIAC added Northwestern and became the Nebraska-Iowa Athletic Conference. Eight years later, Dakota Wesleyan, Dordt, Mount Marty and Sioux Falls joined the conference which became the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) in 2000-2001.Briar Cliff entered the league in 2002-2003 and Morningside became the 13th member starting with the 2003-2004 school year. Both schools are in Sioux City, Iowa.In the summer of 2010 Dana College ceased operations and in 2011 The University of Sioux Falls left the GPAC to join NCAA Division II and the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. The GPAC sponsors 19 intercollegiate sports - nine for women and ten for men - and awards an All-Sports Trophy based on the fi nal league standings and conference meet results at the end of each school year. Wrestling has added as a sanctioned GPAC sport for 2006-2007. The GPAC is the only NAIA conference in the country to sponsor wrestling.Beginning with the 2005-2006 school year, the GPAC started awarding the Christopherson All-Academic Award. The award is a traveling trophy to be presented annually to the GPAC institution with the best academic performance by its student-athletes in all sports. The award is named in honor of Dr. Myrvin Christopherson, who recently retired as President of Dana College. Christopherson had served as the fi rst chair of the GPAC Council of Presidents. In 2011-2012 the GPAC boasted 517 NAIA Scholar-Athletes. The GPAC remains committed to Academic and Athletic Excellence!
The GPAC has 20 NAIA National Champions...In 2000-2001 the Northwestern women and men won NAIA Division II National Basketball Championships, while the Doane women shared the outdoor NAIA Track and Field title. 2001-2002 brought two NAIA titles to our league. The Hastings women won the NAIA Division II National Basketball title, while Doane’s women won the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championship outright. Once the online registration is complete, the prospective student submits the profi le to the NAIA Eligibility Center for evaluation.
Test scores When a prospective student-athlete takes the ACT or SAT, he/she must specify the code “9876” when registering for the exam in order to have the test scores sent directly to the NAIA Eligibility Center. Please register with the NAIA Eligibility Center before having your test scores sent.
TranscriptUpon graduation from high school, transferring from a two- or four-year college, or completing one or more semesters at an NAIA school, prospective student-athlete must ask their high school guidance counselors or college registrars to send offi cial transcripts to the NAIA Eligibility Center. Offi cial transcripts must be:• Stamped with the offi cial school seal and/or signature, and• Sent in an offi cial school envelope that is marked by a school offi cial over the seal, showing that a school offi cial was the
last person to handle the document.
If you are sending transcripts from several schools, you can place the already sealed offi cial transcripts into one, larger envelope and mail them together.
Transcripts received directly from students/parents without the school-sealed envelope are not offi cial and will not be accepted.
Please register with the NAIA Eligibility Center and complete your academic information before having transcripts sent. This will allow you to generate your personal transcript cover page you can give to your school to be mailed with your documents.
NOTE: Students who fi nish their junior year with an overall 3.00 GPA on a 4.00 scale, and have at least an 18 ACT or 860 SAT test score, can receive an early eligibility decision. Those students should request their high school send an offi cial transcript at the end of their junior year.
