Do You Need A Blog And A Newsletter?

What is a Blog?

Before we decide the answer to this question, we need to look at what purpose they both serve.

A blog lives on the web, often on your website and people can pop across to have a look at what they please, when they please, depending on their needs. Blogs on your website are also great for Search Engine Optimisation, but only if thought out and well written and planned , Google doesn’t like rubbish!

What is a a Newsletter

A newsletter on the other hand, is created to send to people who you know WANT to hear from you. You send your chosen information direct to your clients at a time you choose.

The way the two marketing tools work are very different.

Frequency Of Each

A blogs frequency can be daily; if you have time and your copywriting is outstanding then this is highly recommended.

A newsletter however must NOT be more than once a week, or you are possibly spamming people… On the other hand, if you send a newsletter just once a week, at a set time and set day then you build trust, credibility and people look forward to hearing from you.

Can You Repurpose Your Newsletter

Absolutely – approximately a week after I send out my newsletter, I cherry pick information to go on the blog. I keep some of the outstanding information just for my subscribers, as a small bonus for being on my list!

Can You Just Have A Blog And Not Send A Newsletter?

You can, but having weekly newsletters go out to a qualified list will transform your business. Showcasing case studies, testimonials and giving away heaps of value in a newsletter will get people to know, like and trust you. Consistency is key though.

Can You Just Send A Newsletter and Not Have A Blog?

A blog helps you get seen by search engines, and also gives you a chance to build relationships with those who are searching for answers on Google. This will keep a steady flow of Clients coming to you, whether they join your list for your newsletter, or call you up direct to buy from you.

Mailchimp is free (for less than 2000 subscribers), AWebber is inexpensive and a little cleverer, and if you want a full CRM Infusionsoft is outstanding. If you are not currently building a list and sending a newsletter, try sending one once a month. Once you can commit to this, change it to bi-weekly, then weekly.
