Estimados Feligreses,

Hoy Jesús aclara Su misión: predicar la Palabra de Dios. Ha venido con este propósito. Los

discípulos le dicen que mucha gente lo está buscando para que pueda realizar muchos

milagros, pero Jesús es claro en su visión, misión y propósito: proclamar la Palabra de Dios.

Nosotros, como Jesús, a menudo nos vemos atrapados en hacer muchas cosas buenas, pero

¿son eso lo que Dios nos está llamando a hacer? Jesús muy fácilmente podría haberse visto

atrapado en realizar muchos milagros y sanar a los enfermos, pero ese no era Su propósito.

Su propósito era proclamar la Palabra de Dios para que todos pudieran llegar a creer en Su

poder para salvar y ofrecer salvación.

Por lo general, es fácil saber la diferencia entre el bien y el mal, aunque muchos luchan

incluso con esto, pero discernir cuál de las muchas cosas buenas que Dios nos llama a hacer

es aún más difícil. Es por eso que debemos ser capaces de dar un paso atrás y orar sobre el

plan de Dios en nuestras vidas: decir "sí" a lo que Dios quiere y decir "no" a las cosas que son

buenas, pero que Dios no quiere. Muchas veces nos dedicamos a hacer demasiadas cosas

buenas y luego no hacemos nada bien, o peor, nos quemamos y dejamos de hacer nada

bueno en absoluto.

Así como no todos los pecados son iguales en gravedad, tampoco todas las buenas acciones

son iguales. Hacer un milagro para Jesús no era tan bueno como proclamar el Evangelio, por

lo que eligió proclamar el Evangelio. Pudo discernir y saber esto después de pasar tiempo en

oración. Estamos llamados a hacer lo mismo y preguntarle a Dios: "¿Qué es lo que deseas

que haga?"

La semana pasada algunos hermanos sacerdotes y yo comenzamos a hacer esta pregunta y

estamos recibiendo entrenamiento y formación para que podamos servirles mejor. Nos

reunimos una vez al mes sobre una base mensual para discutir lo que está sucediendo en la

parroquia y luego planificar y resolver problemas junto con Kristian Jaloway, quien es

consultora de John Oberg Company. También nos reunimos individualmente con Kristian

dos veces al mes para desarrollarnos a nivel profesional. Varios sacerdotes y sus parroquias

de la Diócesis de Austin se han beneficiado enormemente de la capacitación que estamos

comenzando. Este entrenamiento y formación tiene un costo de $600 por mes, que es un

precio con grandes descuentos. Estoy contribuyendo $200, la parroquia está contribuyendo

$200 y estoy buscando patrocinadores mensuales para ayudar con los $200 finales. Si desea

ser mi padrino durante un mes, hágamelo saber, llame o pase por la oficina. Esta formación

ya me ha dado frutos y me ha dado herramientas indispensables que me ayudarán a seguir

creciendo como sacerdote, especialmente a medida que planificamos y

Funeral services for Salvador Ortiz will be on

Tuesday, February 9th at ST. PHILIP'S

CATHOLIC CHURCH with rosary at 9:30 AM

followed by the funeral mass at 10 AM.

Funeral services for Javier Aranda will be on

Tuesday, February 9th at ST. PHILIP'S

CATHOLIC CHURCH with rosary at 2:30 PM fol-

lowed by the funeral mass at 3 PM.

Both Masses will be offered by Fr. Philip.

Please pray for the repose of the souls of

Salvador Ortiz and Javier Aranda who will be

laid to rest from our parish this week. May

eternal rest be granted to them and may

perpetual light shine upon them.

Collection for the Church in

Central and Eastern Europe

On Wednesday, February 17, the USCCB will

host a collection for the Church in Central and

Eastern Europe. Please consider making a do-

nation on Wednesday.

Dear Parishioners,

Today Jesus clarifies His mission - to preach the Word of God. He has come for this

purpose. The disciples tell Him that many people are looking for Him that He may

perform many miracles, but Jesus is clear in His vision, mission, and purpose - to proclaim

the Word of God. We, like Jesus, often get caught up in doing a lot of good things, but

are they what God is calling us to do? Jesus could very easily have got caught up in

performing many miracles and healing the sick, but that was not His purpose. His

purpose was to proclaim the Word of God so that all might come to belief in His power

to save and offer salvation.

It is usually easy to know the difference from right and wrong, though many struggle

even with this, but to discern which of the many good things we are called by God to do

is even more difficult. This is why we need to be able to step back and pray about the

plan of God in our lives - to say "yes" to what God wills and to say "no" to things that are

good, but not willed by God. Often times we dedicate ourselves to doing too many good

things and then do nothing well, or worse, become burnt out and stop doing anything

good at all.

Just as not all sins are equal in their seriousness, so too all good actions are not the same.

Doing a miracle for Jesus was not as good as proclaiming the Gospel, and so He chose to

proclaim the Gospel. He was able to discern and know this after He spent time in prayer.

We are called to do the same and ask God, "What is it that you desire of me to do?"

This past week some brother priests and myself have started to ask this question and are

undergoing training and formation so that we may better serve you. We meet together

once a month on a monthly basis to discuss what is going on in the parish and then plan

and problem solve together with Kristian Jaloway who is a consultant for the John Oberg

Company. We also meet individually with Kristian twice a month to develop at a

professional level. Several priests and their parishes from the Diocese of Austin have

greatly benefited from the training we are now beginning. This training and formation

comes at a cost of $600 per month, which is a greatly discounted price. I am contributing

$200, the parish is contributing $200, and I am looking for monthly sponsors to help with

the final $200. If you would like to be a padrino for me for a month, please let me know,

call, or stop by the office. This training has already borne fruit for me and has given me

indispensable tools that will help me to continue to grow as a priest, especially as we plan

and look at evangelization in our parish.

May we all strive to continue to grow and do the greatest good possible in our lives by

following the example of Christ.
