Needs and Wants

• You are going to use pgs. 191 – 193 to personally rank you needs according to Maslow’s Pyramid of Need.

• Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs is a ranked list of those needs essential to human growth and development presented in ascending order from the most basic to the most fulfilling or satisfying.

• Do you think that you categorize your needs the same way as Maslow categorizes needs? Are your needs more basic or most fulfilling?

Defining Defense Mechanisms

• This defense mechanism activity will be used to explain the different ways humans react to emotions. It is our basic way of dealing with anxiety or fear.

• The students will be broken up into eight groups; each group will discuss and rationalize an example for their particular defense mechanisms.

• Each group will have to rationalize the definitions to the defense mechanisms using pg. 204. Once each group has completed the assignment, they will present their topic to the class.
