Materials needed:

2 – 3 pcs. of wood beams – 2” x 4” x 75” (suggested)

20 – 30 pcs. Of wood strips – 1” x 2” x 40”

Drill

Screws (for wood) – 50 – 70 pieces

Drill bit

Washers

Lag nuts

Saw (electrical or manual)

Sandpaper

Wrench

Paint (varnish for wood)

Now to start, you have to cut and measure out the wooden strips and

wooden beam and lay it out according to your woodworking plan. After you

have cut the right measurement of the wood for the frame using the saw

you have to make the wood smooth and free from splints using the

sandpaper.

The next thing you have to do is to build the frame by using the wooden

beams for starters. Bolt the measured and cut wooden beams using wooden

screws. Make sure that the futon frame is appropriate and each wood fits

just right. Once the main frame has been done, the next thing you have to

do is to insert the wooden strips you’ve made to the frame (back and front).

Moreover, you have to make sure that the frame for the bed is leveled

correctly so that once you lay it out as a bed, it is just exact.

Also, you have to make sure that the head boards and the foot boards are

also connected using lag nuts and bolts with washers for firm connection.

Besides this, you also have to make sure that the frame for the futon

cushion is movable and can be laid down easily. Just make sure you place

some lock crews if you want to put it back again as a sofa.

After finishing the whole frame, you can paint the wooden futon bed with a

varnish for a glossy look. Let it dry for a few days and you can now use the

do-it yourself futon bed.
