THE ROSE Beauty and the Beast

ADDITIONAL SUPPLIES:

• Red soft felt • Green soft or stiff felt • A cloche at least 8-9” high• Drill & screw or a hammer & nail

• 3 pipe cleaners• Printed template

Prepare the stem and the flower petal pieces.

Take the 3 pipe cleaners and completely wrap them in a generous layer of floral tape. Using the cloche cover as a guide, gently bend into shape, trim and then set aside. The stem should be 3/4 of the height of the cloche cover.

Use the template to cut out the red rose petals and the green felt leaves.

Assemble the rose.

Begin with the smallest petal size, glue and wrap around one end of the stem. Continue to glue around the stem by overlapping the previous petals.

Be sure to keep the point of each rose petal aligned against the stem.

Once finished, fold the edges of the petals to form a curve and trim, if needed. Glue the smaller stem leaves under where the rose meets the stem.

Attach the leaves and thorns to the stem.

Begin by folding each leaf in half, forming a crease and cut a 1/2” line from the bottom. Place a small dot of glue to both sides of this cut and wrap the edges around the stem, carefully holding until dry. Repeat with the second leaf.

Fold each thorn in half to form a crease, open, then place a small dot of glue to the point. Fold and hold until dry. Glue the other end to the stem with the point facing up.

Prepare the cloche base.

Measure and mark the center of the cloche base. Using either a drill or a hammer, make a hole halfway through the base with a screw/nail the same width as the stem. Remove the screw/nail and clear the base of any dust.

Ideally, the flower should be able to fit well enough into the base to hold itself up.

Glue the stem into the hole and hold the flower gently in place while it dries.

Final details.

Take this time to trim and adjust the rose until satisfied. If needed, bend the stem forward to show more of the rose.

Prepare two more small red petals and arrange them around the base. Feel free to glue those in place to cover the glued stem or just leave them as they are.

Finally, cover the rose with the cloche cover and display.

THE MAGICAL GOLDEN FLOWER

Tangled

ADDITIONAL SUPPLIES:

• Yellow & purple soft felt • Green soft or stiff felt • Black mounting board or black felt

• Craft knife• 4 1/2” Flower pot• Gold wire & wire cutters• Pliers• Purple paint & brush• Printed template

Prepare the stemand the flower petals.

Take 4 of the 5 pipe cleaners and wrap them in a generous layer of floral tape. Once the entire stem is covered, place the last pipe cleaner at the bottom of the stem, fold it in half, then re-cover the entire stem with another thick layer of tape.

Cut out the flower petals.

Fold the felt in half and use the template as a guide to cut out the leaves and flower petals.

If painting the inside of the purple flower petals, do this now so they dry while the large petals are being prepared.

Shape the flower petals.

Start with the 6 large flower petals, fold them in half to form a crease, and open them again.

Measure 1/2” from the bottom of the petal and then glue a thin 1” line of glue along the crease. Fold the flower and gently press until the glue dries. Repeat this for the last 5 petals.

Gluing this small crease will help the petals hold their curl later.

Assemble the flower.

Take 3 of the flower petals and glue them together by aligning them in this order:

The side of the petal LEFT of the crease goes OVER the next petal.

The side of the petal RIGHT of the crease goes UNDER the previous petal. As shown in this example.

Do not apply glue in the very center of the flower, this is where the stem will be attached.

Assemble the back petals.

Take the last 3 petals and glue them to the back of the flower.

Glue each petal inside the triangles formed between the flower petals, shown by the arrows here.

Attach the flower to the stem.

Take the stem and apply glue to the smaller end. Slide the flower over the stem and gently hold until the glue dries.

Wrap a layer of floral tape over where the flower meets the stem, about 1/2” in length.

Plant the flower in the flower pot.

Use the printed template to cut the two circles out of the black mounting board. Take the small circle and glue it inside the flower pot to cover the hole.

To fill the pot, trace the mounting board circle over the foam, cut out, then cover the sides of the foam circle with glue and firmly press into the flower pot. Take the large mounting board circle, glue and cover the top of the foam.

Plant the flower 1/4 of the way through the circle. Glue, if needed.

Attach the smaller petals to the flower.

Glue the small purple petals inside the small yellow petals.

Lay out the smaller petals inside of the flower. Align each small petal with the center of the larger petal. Always slightly overlap the previous petal. Once they are laid out, begin to glue each petal to the center one by one.

Attach the wire.

Cut three pieces of gold wire and curl to different lengths. Attach to the center of the flower with glue.

If desired, cover the green stem in the center with a purple sequin or purple paint.

Attach the leavesand curl the edges.

Start with the largest leaves and attach them to the base. Find the triangle cut out on the leaf, apply glue to both ends of the triangle and slightly wrap around the base of each stem. Do this with all 5 of the larger leaves.

Continue with the next size leaves going up. Place them pointing in different directions. As you place these, apply more glue higher up the triangles and wrap the leaves further around the stem so the leaves curve more. Bend the ends of some leaves and display.

MICKEY TOPIARY

ADDITIONAL SUPPLIES:

• 3 foam spheres: One 6” sphere Two 4” spheres

• Green stiff felt 3 shades and 2 sheets each.

• Flowers: Any color(s) soft felt• 7/16” dowel rod• Black mounting board • Craft knife• 6” Flower pot• Ball head straight pins• Printed template

Cut the dowel and prepare the Mickey.

Measure and cut a 1 ft piece and two 3” pieces of dowel rod. Take the large piece and press it halfway through the center of the 6” foam sphere. Take a 4” foam sphere and press a 3” dowel rod halfway, repeat with the other sphere.

Align the two 4” foam spheres over the top of the 6” sphere to form a Mickey. See the example here for how far to space the ears. Once satisfied with their position, press the dowels into the 6” sphere. DO NOT glue yet, remove the dowel rods and set aside for now.

Cut & attach the leaves.

Take two of each shade of the green felt sheets and cut all of the sheets into 1 inch wide strips, then take each strip and cut out 1 1/2” long rectangles. Do this until all of the strips are cut into rectangles.

Fold each rectangle and use the template as a guide to cut them into leaves. Glue the leaves to the spheres starting from the bottom, slightly covering the holes. TIP: Use pins to secure in place while drying. Each new leaf should overlap the previous. Place the leaves randomly to mix colors, but don’t put too much of the same color in one area.

Prepare the flower pot.

Use the printed template to cut the two circles out of the black mounting board. Take the small circle and glue it inside the flower pot to cover the hole.

To fill the pot, trace the mounting board circle over the foam, cut out, then cover the sides of the foam circle with glue and firmly press into the flower pot. Take the large mounting board circle, glue and cover the top of the foam.

Assemble the Mickey.

Wrap the 1 ft dowel rod in a layer of floral tape. Glue the dowel rod inside the 6” sphere (Mickey head). Then, gently press the other end of the dowel rod through the center of the flower pot. Glue, if needed.

Glue the smaller dowel rods inside the 4” spheres (Mickey ears). Once dry, glue the smaller spheres to the Mickey head.

Final details.

Use the template to cut out two leaves. Fold and glue to the base.

Decorate the Mickey topiary with the flowers of your choice. Follow the template for more instructions and tips on how to create felt flowers.

Use the pins to secure the flowers instead of glue so you can change them with the seasons.
