Do Good Do No Harm Stay in Love With The Lord

Wow here we are into the new year, I wonder how many resolutions have

been broken already, or how many are nursing headaches??? As we greet the new year, lets greet these birthdays .

What a way to start a new year, and now a salute to these anniversaries.

Congratulations and best wishes to one and all, hope that your day was the best for you, and may The Lord add His blessings to you.

n the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me, a house free of decorations…

To be clear, the Hopp household leaves up the Christmas decorations at least until January 6. Why? Well, for starters, we believe in celebrating the Christmas season, not just the day.

It saddens us greatly how we Christians have too often let the culture modify our traditions. This modification became evident when we got into a heated discussion regarding when the twelve days of Christmas occur. We in our society have pumped up particular days, we no longer know how to celebrate seasons. Quite frankly, I don’t know if any one of us could stand having twelve days off without any shopping stores open. Would any of us know how to prepare to be idle for so long?

This points to a clear fact. We, in this culture, lack the ability to savor anything. In a world of instant everything, spending more than an hour savoring something seems to be a frivolous waste of time. We’ve got to keep moving. We don’t want moss growing under our feet. Yet, celebrating seasons and taking time to savor the good things in life is one of the antidotes this culture sorely needs. With more and more people saying “No” to Christianity, showing people how to slow down and savor might be the witness this world needs. We’re worried we Christians have become too much like the culture. Our actual witness is the same as those who don’t believe - take everything down the day after Christmas - nothing to see here - it wasn’t that big of a deal anyway, just the birth of the Savior of the World - get back to us when He does something important.

For those of us who were fortunate enough to be parents of little children, we have a question. Do you miss cuddling with your child? Rocking your child to sleep? Seeing them learn new things with wonder. Do you wish you could have some of those moments back, so that you could savor them this time around? God became human. God became a baby. This is profound and it demands that we savor this news. Christmas isn’t a day. Christmas is a season, and it wonderfully spans the ending of the current year and the beginning of the new year. As Scrooge says, he will keep Christmas every day of the year, so, the invitation goes to us as well. As we see 2017 on the horizon, will we strive to keep the spirit of Christmas alive every day in the coming year? Will you join us? Blessings, Pastors Andy and Kristi

Meditation

Laughter is mental, laughter is emotional, laughter is physical, and laughter is spiritual. Laughter helps us find balance. If we get to angry, laughter will turn that emotion into a balanced direction. If we have a mental picture of someone who is too strong, laughter will help ease the tension. if the body is stressed laughter will release natural relaxants into our muscles and our nervous system. Laughter often changes our attitude, we need to lighen up and laugh more. --Coyhis Publishing

From the “computor”

By Leo McCauley As we start another new year, I was joking at the start about breaking resolutions, however this would be a good time to make a couple of resolutions, one, would be to start attending church services a little more often, I know that in our lifetime, often when things start to go bad for us we tend to say we don't have time for God, but what a better time to turn to God, when we say we don't have time for God, remember that God WILL never turn from us, and just maybe if we spend a little time with God in Church on Sunday morning, just maybe we might be able to shave a stroke or two on the golf course or that 5 pound bass we always wanted to catch, just might find his way to your hook, there are all sorts of things that just might go better for us, to paraphrase an old commercial, things go better with God. The Gospel of St. John KJV 1:4-5:

In Him was the life; and the life was the light of men And the light shineth in the darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

May God add his blessings to these words someone else

Dear Members and Friends of The New Hope Parish,

In 2010, when I received my commission in the Air National as a Protestant Chaplain, I knew that one day I would be called to serve in whatever capacity the United States Air Force would require. This day has arrived. I have been

selected for a deployment to Scott Air Force Base near Belleville, Illinois. The deployment starts on February 6, 2017 and is scheduled to end September 30, 2017. Rev. Leah Poegemiller, our District Superintendent, has assured the Pastor Parish Committee and I that Bishop Beard with the Cabinet of the Illinois Rivers Conference will assign pastoral support during these eight months.

My prayer is that you continue to shine your light brightly to carry on God’s message

of hope and love during my absence. May God’s Peace and Blessings be upon us all as we venture into this New Year and this new possibility. In Christ’s Love and Service,

Rev. Kristi L. Hopp
