    Installing the Router

    Connect the ADSL and Telephone Lines

    ConnectanRJ-11cablebetweenthewallphonejackandtheADSL port on the rear panel o the router.

    Connect the PC to the Router

    TousetheEthernetconnection,connecttheEthernetcablefromthecomputerdirectlytotherouter.Connectoneendofthe

    Ethernet cable to the port labeled LAN on the back o the router and attach the other end to the Ethernet port o your computer.

    IfyourLANhasmorethanonecomputer,youcanattachoneendofanEthernetcabletoahuboraswitchandtheothertothe

    Ethernet port (labeled LAN) on the router. Note that either a crossover or straight-through Ethernet cable can be used. The router

    Prior to accessing the router through the LAN port, note the ollowing necessary congurations:

    Below are the procedures or conguring your computer. Follow the instructions or the operating system that you are using.

    Confguring Your Computer

    Windows 7, Vista, Windows XP, 2000I you are not using a DHCP capable gateway/router, or you need to assign a static IP address, please ollow the steps below:

    Step 1

    Windows 7 - Click on Start > Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center.

    Windows Vista - Click on Start > Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center > Manage Network Connections.

    Windows XP - Click on Start > Control Panel > Network Connections.Windows 2000 - From the desktop, right-clickMy Network Places > Properties.

    Right-click on the Local Area Connection which represents your D-Link network adapter and select Properties.

    1. In the Mac OS X Dock, click on the System Preerences icon.

    2. Under Internet & Network, clickNetwork. In the Show menu, select Built-in Ethernet or Ethernet (Depending on your Mac OS version.)

    3. Click the TCP/IP tab.

    4. In the Congure menu, select Using DHCP.

    1. Launch your web browser.

    2. Enter the URL http://192.168.1.1 in the address bar and press Enter.

    A login screen like the one below will be displayed ater you connect to the user interace.

    3. Enter your user name and password, and then clickOKto display the user interace.

    Note: Useadmin/admin as deault or username andpassword.

    1. Why cant I access the web-based confguration utility?

    WhenenteringtheIPaddressoftheD-Linkrouter(192.168.1.1forexample),youarenotconnectingtoawebsiteontheInternetorhavetobe

    connected to the Internet. The device has the utility built-in to a ROM chip in the device itsel. Your computer must be on the same IP subnet to

    connect to the web-based utility.

    MakesureyouhaveanupdatedJava-enabledwebbrowser.Werecommendthefollowing:

    InternetExplorer6.0orhigher

    Firefox3.0orhigher

    Verifyphysicalconnectivitybycheckingforsolidlinklightsonthedevice.Ifyoudonotgetasolidlinklight,tryusingadierentcableorconnect

    to a diferent port on the device i possible. I the computer is turned of, the link light may not be on.

    DisableanyInternetsecuritysoftwarerunningonthecomputer.SoftwarerewallssuchasZoneAlarm,BlackIce,Sygate,NortonPersonalFirewall,

    and Windows XP rewall may block access to the conguration pages. Check the help les included with your rewall sotware or more inormation

    ClicktheConnection tab and set the dial-up option to Never Dial a Connection. Click the LAN Settings button. Make sure nothing

    is checked. ClickOK.

    GototheAdvanced tab and click the button to restore these settings to their deaults. ClickOKthree times.

    Closeyourwebbrowser(ifopen)andopenit.

    Accessthewebmanagement.OpenyourwebbrowserandentertheIPaddressofyourD-Linkrouterintheaddressbar.Thisshouldopenthe

    login page or your the web management.

    Ifyoustillcannotaccesstheconguration,unplugthepowertotherouterfor10secondsandplugbackin.Waitabout30secondsandtry

    accessing the conguration. I you have multiple computers, try connecting using a diferent computer.

    2. What can I do i I orgot my password?

    I you orgot your password, you must reset your router. Unortunately, this process will change all your settings back to the actory deaults.

    To reset the router, locate the reset button (hole) on the rear panel o the unit. With the router powered on, use a paperclip to hold the button down

    or 10 seconds. Release the button and the router will go through its reboot process. Wait about 30 seconds to access the router. For inormation

    about logging into the router see page 12.

    Check your IP address

    Ater you install your new D-Link adapter, by deault, the TCP/IP settings should be set to obtain an IP address rom a DHCP server (i.e. wireless

    router) automatically. To veriy your IP address, please ollow the steps below.

    Click on Start > Run.Intherunboxtypecmdand clickOK.

    At the prompt, type ipconfg and press Enter.

    This will display the IP address, subnet mask, and the deault

    gateway o your adapter.

    I the address is 0.0.0.0, check your adapter installation, security

    settings, and the settings on your router. Some rewall sotware

    programsmayblockaDHCPrequestonnewlyinstalled

    adapters.

    I you are connecting to a wireless network at a hotspot (e.g.

    hotel, cofee shop, airport), please contact an employee or

    administrator to veriy their wireless network settings.

    I you are not using a DHCP capable gateway/router, or you need to assign a static IP address, please ollow the steps below:

    Step 1

    Windows XP - Click on Start > Control Panel > Network Connections.

    Windows

    2000 - From the desktop, right-clickMy Network Places > Properties.

    Step 2

    Right-click on the Local Area Connection which represents your D-Link network adapter and select Properties.

    Step 3

    Highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and clickProperties.

    Step 4

    ClickUse the ollowing IP address and enter an IP address that is on the same subnet as your network or the LAN IP address on your router.

    Example:IftheroutersLANIPaddressis192.168.1.1,makeyourIPaddress192.168.1.XwhereXisa

    number between 2 and 99. Make sure that the number you choose is not in use on the network. Set

    Deault Gateway the same as the LAN IP address o your router (192.168.1.1).

    Set Primary DNS the same as the LAN IP address o your router (192.168.0.1). The Secondary DNS is not

    needed or you may enter a DNS server rom your ISP.

    Step 5

    ClickOKtwice to save your settings.
