1.1.1 About this manualAfter a brief introduction to the basics of dLAN andSAT>IP as well as a short summary of thedLAN TV SAT Multituner's functions in Chapter 2,Chapter 3 shows you how to successfully start usingyour device. Chapter 4 provides a detailed description of the con-figuration options for the integrated configuration in-terface of the dLAN TV SAT Multituner. In Chapter 5you learn how to watch satellite TV on your tablet orsmartphone using the devolo dLAN TV SAT App. For more information on configuring your dLAN net-work, see Chapter 6. Information about product safety, the environmentalcompatibility of the device and our warranty terms canbe found in Chapter 7 and conclude the manual.

1.1 Thank you for placing your trust in this devolo product

The dLAN TV SAT Multituner lets you keep up withthe hot trend of mobile television and makes com-plex satellite system cabling a thing of the past! Thedevolo device not only uses a household's electricalwiring to transmit TV signals, thereby changing anypower outlet into an antenna socket, it enables un-encrypted satellite TV reception on your tablet and/or smartphone together with the devolo dLAN TVSAT App. Your Wi-Fi Internet access device just hasto be connected to the dLAN network with a dLANadapter.

You can add a devolo dLAN TV SAT to IP Receiver orany other SAT>IP certified receiver at any time withan additional dLAN adapter.

The dLAN TV SAT Multituner is intend-ed for the reception of DVB-S/S2 satel-lite signals and their transfer to theconnected SAT>IP receiver or to an In-ternet-based terminal device (e. g.smartphone or tablet).

2.2 What does SAT>IP stand for?SAT>IP is a new communication protocol for receivingand distributing satellite signals. It converts the televi-sion signals (DVB-S/S2) into signals that Internet-basedterminal devices can read, so that satellite television ispossible even on IP devices having no integrated satel-lite receiver (such as smartphones and tablets). Thesatellite signals can be forwarded within the home net-work either wirelessly or by cable.

2.3 The dLAN TV SAT Multituner� The twin tuner equipped with two satellite con-

nections, for example, lets you record and playback different TV stations simultaneously on onereceiver or to operate two receivers in one homesimultaneously.

2 IntroductiondLAN is an intelligent, secure technology that lets youset up a home network easily, quickly and economical-ly via your household electrical wiring, without theneed for complex and expensive dedicated cabling.

2.1 What exactly is dLAN? dLAN (direct Local Area Network) uses the householdpower grid to transfer data between computersequipped with suitable adapters and other networkcomponents. As a result, any power outlet can be usedas a network access point. The data is modulated priorto transfer and sent as a signal via household powerlines. State-of-the-art technology ensures that thepower and data networks do not interfere with one an-other. Networking via dLAN is fast and secure. Thedata is encrypted using a key to prevent interception bythird parties.

With dLAN adapters, not only network signals can eas-ily be transferred via the mains supply. Video signals inHD standard and audio signals in digital CD quality canbe quickly and easily distributed everywhere in thehouse this way.

2.4 Sample applicationsdLAN TV SAT Multituner

The dLAN TV SAT Multituner is the optimal solution ifyou have a SAT>IP receiver and have already set up adLAN network at home. Just download thedLAN TV SAT App from devolo on the Internet andreceive unencrypted satellite TV on your smartphoneor tablet over Wi-Fi. This requires an existing Wi-Ficonnection, which (as shown in Figure 1 and 2) isconnected via an available dLAN adapter to thedLAN network and thus to thedLAN TV SAT Multituner. The twin tuner receives twodifferent satellite TV programmes at the same time,making it ideal for households with two or more TV re-

Control lamps

The control lamps (LEDs) show the status for each ofthe dLAN connections by illuminating and/or flashingin different ways.

3.3 The dLAN TV SAT Multituner

3.3.1 Indicators and connectionsOn the back of the housing next to the two antennaconnections you will find the dLAN LEDs, the encryp-tion button and a network jack.

Antenna connections

This is where you connect the satellite system to thedLAN TV SAT Multituner using the coaxial cable. Onceyou have made the two connections, you can, for ex-ample, simultaneously watch television and record an-other programme; one satellite connection is used forthe television and the other for the recording.

3.3.2 Setup instructionsPositioning on level surface

If you place the dLAN TV SAT Multituner on a levelsurface, select a stable base.

Wall mounting

Make sure that no gas, water or powerlines in the wall get damaged. There isa danger of electric shock!

Use suitable fasteners for the respective base to en-sure a reliable and secure wall mounting.

3.3.3 Connecting the dLAN TV SAT Multituner

� Use one or two coaxial cables with an F-connectorto connect the satellite system to the antennainput of the dLAN TV SAT Multituner.

� Plug the Euro 8 cable into the power jack of thedLAN TV SAT Multituner and the power plug intoan available power outlet. Thanks to the inte-grated dLAN adapter, thedLAN TV SAT Multituner is connected directly tothe dLAN network. To secure your dLAN network,continue with your network configuration. Formore information, refer to the chapter 6 dLANnetwork.

� PLC

� Is lit a steady green if the network connectionis suitable for HD video streaming and onlinegaming; flashes when data is being transmit-ted.

� Is lit a steady orange if the network connec-tion is suitable for SD video streaming andonline gaming; flashes when data is beingtransmitted.

� Is lit a steady red if the network connection issuitable for simple data transfer and Internetaccess; flashes when data is being transmit-ted.

� Ethernet Link/Act: Is lit a steady green when aconnection to the Ethernet network exists; flasheswhen data is being transmitted.

Encryption button

Data encryption at the touch of a button; for a func-tional description of the encryption button, please con-tinue reading in chapter 6 dLAN network.

Network connection

This is where you connect the dLAN TV SAT Multituner,for example, to your structured wiring via a commer-cially available network cable.

4 Tuner configuration The dLAN TV SAT Multituner has a built-in configura-tion interface that can be called up using a standardweb browser. All settings for operating the device canbe modified here.

4.1 Calling up the built-in configu-ration interface

You can access the built-in online configuration inter-face for the dLAN TV SAT Multituner by usingdLAN Cockpit software under Start � All Programs� devolo � dLAN Cockpit, you can get to the de-vice's configuration interface by clicking on the tab forthe dLAN TV SAT Multituner.

Then the program determines the current IP addressand starts the configuration in the web browser. Youwill come directly to the configuration interface.

4.2 Menu descriptionAll menu functions are described in the correspondinginterface as well as in the associated chapter in the

4.3 Status overviewIn the Status overview area you can track the statusof the tuner and your connected dLAN and LAN devic-es.

It consists of 4 x 4 letters separatedby dashes (e.g. ANJR-KMOR-KSHT-QRUV). Ensure that all dLAN adaptersare connected to the power grid andcomputers or other network compo-nents as appropriate.

4.4 Device configurationIn the configuration area of the device you can modifysettings for network and dLAN.

4.4.1 Network settingsThe dLAN TV SAT Multituner also communicates viathe TCP/IP protocol as a component of your home net-work. The IP address required for this can either be en-

If you only change the password for a Local device,you exclude it from your Total dLAN network.

4.5 Tuner configurationIf you have occupied both satellite connections on thedLAN TV SAT Multituner and a recording initiated onthe dLAN TV Sat to IP Receiver is to have priority overa live stream (data transmission via Internet), enablethe option A recording programmed via the set-top box has priority over a normal stream.



If you have enabled the above option,your recording will definitely be made,even if two live streams are running si-multaneously, for example, on a tabletand on the receiver. In this case, a livestream is automatically cancelled.There will be no message concerningthis.

4.6.1 Resetting the configurationWith the Management � Reset configuration com-mand, the dLAN TV SAT Multituner is reset to the orig-inal factory defaults. In doing so, you lose yourpersonal settings.

For backup purposes, all active configuration settingscan be transmitted to your computer, stored there as afile and reloaded into the dLAN TV SAT Multituner. Inthis way, you can for example generate configurationsfor different network environments, with which youcan set up the device quickly and easily.

4.6.4 Update firmwareThe firmware of the dLAN TV SAT Multituner includesthe software for operating the device. If necessary, de-

5.2 Installing dLAN TV SAT App

� After you have hooked up thedLAN TV SAT Multituner and connected it to theWi-Fi Internet access device using an additionaldLAN adapter (see also 6 dLAN network),download the dLAN TV SAT App to your smart-phone or tablet from the corresponding store.

5 dLAN TV SAT App With the free dLAN TV SAT App from devolo, you canalso receive unencrypted satellite television on yoursmartphone or tablet. The prerequisite for this is an ex-isting Wi-Fi connection, which is connected to thedLAN network via another dLAN adapter.

5.1 System requirementsdevolo dLAN TV SAT App

By tapping the gear at the upper edge of the screenyou come to the Image and Audio setting; the vol-ume control is controlled by the megaphone.

5.3.2 Settings This is where country and satellite specifications aremade. To select a channel you can use the preconfig-ured Astra list, which automatically searches for andlists all currently available channels if you tap Automat-ic detection.

By tapping Search for selected satellites you canalso start a satellite search manually.

By tapping Search for channels you can also start achannel search manually.

Under Timeshifting buffer, specify the desired vol-ume for timeshifting recordings.

By tapping Play audio in the background, the au-dio continues playing with the screen switched off.

At the bottom edge of the screen you see the Wi-Fi ac-cess point through which your smartphone or tabletis currently connected.

Under Devices you find information about the con-nected tuner.

5.3 MenuThe screen surface of the dLAN TV SAT Appautomatically adjusts to the orientation (hor-izontal/vertical) of the smartphone or tablet.

You can page through the menu and respec-tive view or "surf" through the programmelist by swiping across the screen (left/right orup/down).

The dLAN TV SAT App includes common TV pro-gramme functions which are briefly illustrated in thefollowing.

5.3.1 Live televisionThe current programme list is displayed under Live tel-evision. Select a programme by tapping it. The pro-gramme screen contains information abouttimeshifting and EPG, which can be hidden manual-ly by tapping or hides automatically after a short time.

If you press and hold the horizontal bar displayed atthe right edge of the screen, you can modify the pro-gramme sequence by drag & drop.

The bar graph at the right edge of the screen showsthe transmission quality of the Wi-Fi connection.

6 dLAN networkBefore you can use the dLAN TV SAT Multituner in yourdLAN network, first you have to connect it to otherdLAN devices as a home network. Two specific piecesof information are especially important for this:

� Shared use of a dLAN password results in a delim-ited dLAN network.

� Shared use of the dLAN password serves as accesscontrol to the dLAN network as well as theencryption, and thereby the interception protec-tion, of the transmitted data.

The dLAN password can be set automatically using theencryption button (see 6.1 dLAN network en-cryption at the touch of a button) or manually us-ing the dLAN Cockpit program (see 6.2dLAN Cockpit).

6.1 dLAN network encryption at the touch of a button

To encrypt a dLAN network, in which all associated de-vices are equipped with an encryption button, simplypress the encryption button located on the device.Pressing this button will encrypt your dLAN networkwith a randomly generated password.

Options are given like assigning an additional name,resetting the respective device to the factory defaultsettings or removing a device from the existingdLAN network.

The above-mentioned setting optionsvary depending on the function andfeatures of your device.

You can also specify whether information on the per-formance of your dLAN adapters will be transferred todevolo.

The data sent to devolo pertains only to theperformance values of your dLAN devices.The data is anonymised and will be used ex-clusively for statistical purposes. By providingit, you can help us improve our products.

The Troubleshooting Guide includes installation in-structions and information about how to connect yourdevices optimally with one another.

6.2.1 Encrypting a network with dLAN Cockpit

If you use dLAN devices without an encryption but-ton, data can be encrypted only via dLAN Cockpit.

The coloured connecting lines of the adapters illustratethe current transmission quality:

� Green: the network connection is suitable for HDvideo streaming.

� Orange: the network connection is suitable forSD video streaming and online gaming.

� Red: the network connection is suitable for simpledata transfer and Internet access.

If data transmission from one device to another is ac-tually taking place, the data rate is displayed on the re-spectively highlighted adapter.

Settings and functions

You can configure settings for the respectively high-lighted device or for the network

� via the buttons at the bottom edge of the screen

� or via tabs arranged at the side of each adapter.

You can always use the Refresh button to display thecurrent status of devices that have been found (if thishasn't happened automatically).

By means of the Options button or the correspondingtabs of the respective adapter, you can learn device in-formation such as the firmware version used and theindividual MAC address.

You can choose between your own password, a ran-dom password and the default password. The factory default password isHomePlugAV. Assigning a specificpassword to a single adapter willexclude it from the remaining dLANnetwork.

If dLAN Cockpit is called up again later after a suc-cessful initial installation, for example to integrate anew adapter into a network, the application remem-bers the devices that were entered earlier. Enter thenew device as described in the Adding an adapter

Before the networking procedure, notethe security IDs of all dLAN adapters.This unique identifier of each dLAN de-vice is located on the label on the hous-ing. It consists of 4 x 4 letters separatedby dashes (e.g. ANJR-KMOR-KSHT-QRUV). Ensure that all dLAN adaptersare connected to the power grid andcomputers or other network compo-nents as appropriate.

Scan for local adapter

After dLAN Cockpit is started, it searches for the dLANadapter connected directly to your computer first.

Adding an adapter

Add all the dLAN devices you want to your dLANnetwork by selecting the Add adapter button. Youwill need the 16-character security IDs of the adaptersfrom the label on the housing. Enter it now in theSecurity ID field and confirm with OK. If a security IDis correct and the device can be reached in the dLANnetwork, it will be added to your network of configuredadapters and also displayed in the program.

Entering a network password

After you have added all the dLAN devices you want toyour dLAN network, select the Change password

Can I use the dLAN TV SAT to IP Receiver even in a multi-dwelling unit?

When the satellite signals from thedLAN TV SAT to IP Receiver are transmitted via themains supply, power meters usually attenuate the sig-nal transmission so much that transmission across themeter is not possible—for example, from apartment toapartment.

The typical installation in a multi-dwelling unit pro-vides for a joint satellite system. Such a satellite systemis usually connected via an electric mains circuit withits own power meter. There is no direct power connec-tion into the apartment of the user (power meter for"joint power" and power meter for apartment). Thussatellite transmission of thedLAN TV SAT to IP Receiver from the joint satellite sys-tem into the apartment is often not possible.

Solution: You can use the dLAN TV SAT to IP Receiverwithin the apartment. Simply connect thedLAN TV SAT Multituner to an existing, available satel-lite connection socket.

How many dLAN TV SAT to IP Receiver can be operated simultaneously in an electric mains cir-cuit?

You can use up to 3 systems simultaneously.

7 Appendix

7.1 TroubleshootingReliability and ease of use are important aspects of thedesign of dLAN TV SAT. If, despite this, a problemshould ever occur, this chapter contains a few usefulhints intended to allow you to identify and remedy theproblem. Additionally, the website www.devolo.comcontains a lot of satellite information for you. If youneed additional support, the "Preface" chapter at thebeginning of this manual tells you how to contact oursupport department.

Can I also play back the recordings on a com-puter?

Yes. Recordings from the dLAN TV SAT to IP Receivercan also be played back on a computer. You will findthe recordings under DVR � RECS. Below this are fold-ers (sorted by the programme's recording date) inwhich there are Chunk files. In order for these Chunksto be able to be played back, for example, by VLC Play-er, they first have to be renamed as ".ts files".

Which DiSEqC (Digital Satellite Equipment Con-trol) version is supported?

The dLAN TV SAT to IP Receiver supports DiSEqC ver-sions 1.0 and 1.1.

The dLAN TV SAT Multituner is intend-ed for the reception of DVB-S/S2 satel-lite signals and their transfer to theconnected SAT>IP receiver or to an In-ternet-based terminal device (e. g.smartphone or tablet).

� To disconnect the device from the power supplygrid, pull the power plug. The power plug must beeasily accessible.

Follow the safety notes below to de-crease the risk of fire as much as possi-ble:

� Do not place any objects on the devices.

� The devices may not be placed directly nextto open flame (such as fire or candles).

� Do not keep the device in direct sunlight.

� Never set up the device near a heater orradiator.

� The device should be located only where suffi-cient ventilation can be ensured.

� Do not insert any objects into the openingsof the device. Slots and openings on the caseserve as ventilation. Never block or coverthem.

War-ranty services carried out by devolo do not result in an extension ofthe warranty period nor do they initiate a new warranty period. Thewarranty period for installed replacement parts ends with the war-ranty period of the device as a whole.

7.3 Disposal of old devicesTo be used in the countries of the European Union andother European countries with a separate collectingsystem:

The icon with crossed-out wastebasket on the devicemeans that this adapter is an electrical or electronicdevice that falls within the scope of application of theGerman Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act("Elektrogesetz"). Since 24 March 2006, these types ofdevices may no longer be disposed of with householdwaste. Rather, in Germany, they can be given to amunicipal collection point free of charge. Contact yourmunicipal government to find out the address andhours of the nearest collection point.

7.4 Warranty conditionsThe devolo AG warranty is given to purchasers of devolo products inaddition to the warranty conditions provided by law and in accord-ance with the following conditions:

1 Warranty coverage

a) The warranty covers the equipment delivered and all its parts.Parts will, at devolo's sole discretion, be replaced or repairedfree of charge if, despite proven proper handling and adher-ence to the operating instructions, these parts became defec-tive due to fabrication and/or material defects. Alternatively,devolo reserves the right to replace the defective product witha comparable product with the same specifications and fea-

5 Operating mistakes

If it becomes apparent that the reported malfunction of the devicehas been caused by unsuitable hardware, software, installation oroperation, devolo reserves the right to charge the purchaser for theresulting testing costs.

6 Additional regulations

The above conditions define the complete scope of devolo's legalliability.

a) The warranty gives no entitlement to additional claims, such asany refund in full or in part. Compensation claims, regardlessof the legal basis, are excluded. This does not apply if e.g.injury to persons or damage to private property are specificallycovered by the product liability law, or in cases of intentionalact or culpable negligence.

b) Claims for compensation of lost profits, indirect or consequen-tial detriments, are excluded.

c) devolo is not liable for lost data or retrieval of lost data incases of slight and ordinary negligence.

d) In the case that the intentional or culpable negligence ofdevolo employees has caused a loss of data, devolo will be lia-ble for those costs typical to the recovery of data where peri-odic security data back-ups have been made.

e) The warranty is valid only for the first purchaser and is nottransferable.

f) The court of jurisdiction is located in Aachen, Germany in thecase that the purchaser is a merchant. If the purchaser doesnot have a court of jurisdiction in the Federal Republic of Ger-many or if he moves his domicile out of Germany after conclu-sion of the contract, devolo's court of jurisdiction applies. Thisis also applicable if the purchaser's domicile is not known atthe time of institution of proceedings.

g) The law of the Federal Republic of Germany is applicable. TheUN commercial law does not apply to dealings between devoloand the purchaser.

3 Warranty procedure

a) If defects appear during the warranty period, the warrantyclaims must be made immediately, at the latest within a periodof 7 days.

b) In the case of any externally visible damage arising from trans-port (e.g. damage to the housing), the person carrying out thetransportation and the sender should be informed immedi-ately. On discovery of damage which is not externally visible,the transport company and the sender are to be immediatelyinformed in writing, at the latest within 3 days of delivery.

c) Transport to and from the location where the warranty claim isaccepted and/or the repaired device is exchanged, is at thepurchaser's own risk and cost.

d) Warranty claims are only valid if a copy of the original pur-chase receipt is returned with the device. devolo reserves theright to require the submission of the original purchase receipt.

4 Suspension of the warranty

All warranty claims will be deemed invalid

a) if the label with the serial number has been removed from thedevice,

b) if the device is damaged or destroyed as a result of acts ofnature or by environmental influences (moisture, electricshock, dust, etc.),

c) if the device was stored or operated under conditions not incompliance with the technical specifications,

d) if the damage occurred due to incorrect handling, especially tonon-observance of the system description and the operatinginstructions,

e) if the device was opened, repaired or modified by persons notcontracted by devolo,

f) if the device shows any kind of mechanical damage, or

g) if the warranty claim has not been reported in accordance with3a) or 3b).
