Following a successful four-year stint manning the sidelines at theUniversity of Oregon, Chip Kelly was named head coach of thePhiladelphia Eagles on January 16, 2013. Kelly joined the NFLcoaching fraternity after 23 years of working in the college ranks.

His remarkable four-year tenure with the Ducks produced a 46-7 (.868) overall record and transformed that university into one ofthe nation’s premiere football destinations.

Amidst Kelly’s meteoric rise, he became the first coach in Ore-gon’s history to guide the program to three undisputed conferencechampionships from 2009-12. Additionally, the Ducks made an ap-pearance in a BCS Bowl game in each of Kelly’s four seasons ashead coach. In just Kelly’s second season, Oregon earned a trip tothe BCS National Championship game in 2010.

Not only did Kelly implement an offense with a fast pace, but hisschemes also resulted in racking up big plays. During Kelly’s tenure, the Ducks led the FBS in big plays, including 25-yard passing plays(220) and 25-yard rushes (110). In his four seasons at Oregon, theDucks scored a whopping 44.7 points per game.

His 2012 Ducks squad finished 12-1 and ranked fourth in total of-fense accumulating nearly 7,000 yards while scoring an average of49.6 points per game. They rushed for 315.2 yards per game whileranking fifth, averaging 537.4 total yards. Their offense ran 1,077plays in just 13 games, which would have ranked 7th in the NFL’s 16-game schedule.

Known as a football junkie, Kelly has a matter-of-fact leadershipstyle in addition to his mastery of the spread offense. Following Ore-gon’s run at a potential national title in 2010, Kelly’s leadership wasrecognized with a multitude of Coach of the Year awards from out-lets such as Associated Press, Sporting News, The Walter CampFootball Foundation, and other postseason titles including the EddieRobinson Coach of the Year, AFCA Coach of the Year, and Pac-10Coach of the Year.

Prior to taking over as Oregon’s head coach, Kelly spent two sea-sons as the team’s offensive coordinator. In his first season leadingthe team’s offense, the Ducks were forced into playing four differentstarting quarterbacks during the final four games of 2007. Kelly’splug-and-play style was cemented when the team had an impressive56-21 Sun Bowl victory over South Florida.

Before joining Oregon’s program, Kelly served as New Hamp-shire’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach from 1999-2006. His offenses at his alma mater averaged better than 400 yardsof total offense in seven of his eight seasons and more than 30 pointsper game in his final four years. As a result, three Wildcat players re-ceived first-team All-America acclaim each of his last two seasonsin the Granite State. In 2006, junior QB Ricky Santos earned the Wal-ter Payton Award as the most outstanding players in FCS.

Ironically, Kelly got his first taste of coaching in the college rankson the defensive side of the ball with Columbia in 1990. And in 1993,he was named the defensive coordinator at Johns Hopkins.

A product of the University of New Hampshire, Kelly earned abachelor’s degree in physical education. He played quarterback anddefensive back for legendary coach Bill Bowes at UNH from 1981-84.

The third of four boys, Kelly attended Manchester (NH) CentralHigh School and starred in football and track. Kelly, whose first lovewas hockey, played in the Manchester Regional Youth Hockey Asso-ciation, and also made time for the local CYO basketball team.

Charles Kelly was born in Dover, NH, on November 25, 1963 andis the son of Paul and Jean Kelly. Paul is a retired trial lawyer.

He is known for his collaborative, easygoing style, financialacumen and long-term view and for playing a key role in signifi-cant projects from the construction of Lincoln Financial Field to theclub’s internationally recognized environmental and philanthropicprograms.

During his first year as President, Smolenski has infused en-ergy throughout the organization with his engaging leadershipstyle. He embarked on a two-year, $125 million revitalization planto Lincoln Financial Field and aided Eagles chairman Jeffrey Lurieand general manager Howie Roseman on the team’s search for anew head coach - a process that landed Oregon head coach ChipKelly. He also spearheaded a plan that relocated the team’s train-ing camp to Philadelphia for the first time since 1943.

The stadium revitalization plan, like others, was a direct resultof his numerous conversations with Eagles fans, an initiative thatfuels Smolenski’s drive as one of the key stewards of the franchise.

Smolenski is also a driving force in the team’s environmentalinitiatives. Through its Go Green! program, the Eagles haveemerged as a leader in environmental stewardship. The team hasbecome a green leader in the sports industry through its conser-vation efforts, recycling programs, and use of renewable energy. “He’s one of the brightest young guys in the league,” said Eagleschairman Jeffrey Lurie. “I’m very excited about what he brings tothe table. He has assembled an excellent team around him. He’smeticulous in his evaluations. He has great relationships with play-ers, coaches and agents around the league.”

Over the last couple of years, Roseman has configured whatmany observers have coined a strong scouting staff with a blend ofexperienced scouts and a young core of talent.

"You have to give him a lot of credit for that, because there area lot of young guys who wouldn't do that," former NFL GM and cur-rent Eagles senior football advisor Tom Donahoe said. "They'd feelthreatened by it. They would feel a little bit intimidated by it. ButHowie's only interested in getting the best group of scouts that hecan. He values our opinion. We don't always agree, but that's partof scouting."

Over the last two years, Roseman has revamped theEagles scouting staff. Here’s a breakdown:

Behind a solid effort from the Philadelphiadefense, the Eagles held the Panthers out of theend zone and showed signs of progress on the of-fensive side of the ball as they defeated the Pan-thers, 14-9, at Lincoln Financial Field. After struggling against the run in the previ-ous week, the Eagles defense opened the first halfby limiting Carolina to two first downs before forc-ing a punt. Taking over on their own five-yard line,QB Nick Foles methodically marched Philadel-phia down the field using a combination of short passes and runs inthe no-huddle offense. However, after driving the Eagles inside ofthe Panther 10-yard line, Foles fumbled a snap and came up a fewyards short of throwing the ball away as Carolina CB Josh Thomasintercepted the pass attempt in the back of the end zone. The Philadelphia defense forced a Carolina three-and-out on theensuing possession, and WR Damaris Johnson set the Birds up withgood field position, returning a punt 18 yards to the Carolina 39-yardline. RB LeSean McCoy, who showed his sensational shiftiness on a21-yard rush, moved the Eagles inside of the Panthers 10-yard linebefore Foles scrambled for a seven-yard score to give the Birds a 7-0 lead. On their next possession, the Panthers rebounded with a nine-play, 51-yard drive, punctuated by a 47-yard K Graham Gano fieldgoal. Eagles QB Michael Vick took overthe signal-calling duties forthe Birds in the second quarter, helping guide the team deep intoPanther territory before a RB Chris Polk fumbled ended the team’sscoring chance. The Panters responded with a 27-yard K MorganLineberry field goal o bring the score to 7-6 after driving 72 yards in13 plays following the turnover. Taking over with three minutes to play in the half, Vick connectedon four consecutive passes, including throws of 12, 16 and 22 yardsto get the Eagles deep into Panther territory. After two rushes byVick, McCoy found the end zone from one yard out to move the Birdsfurther ahead, 14-6.
