DIY Spring-summer jacket (free pattern)38 Replies

As I promised in the post DIY skinny leg pants. Here is the tutorial with matching jacket with freepattern included!!!

It’s a very simple jacket that will serve for multiple projects. Fresh, because it has no lining and if yousew it in linen or cotton fabric, it will be ideal for the chilly nights of the season.

Materials:

Fabric with a minimum of 2% elastane.

Scissors Pins Sewing Machine Interlining Pattern (download HERE )

Process:

1. Fold the fabric in half and position the pattern pieces parallel to the edge with the lines that are

drawn in between each piece.




2. Cut the amount of pieces written in the pattern pieces. Leave 1cm margin around each piece. Inthe leave a margin of 3-4 cm.




3. Sew the sleeves. (Remember that the sleeves are differentiated right and left which doubles cutsfor armholes to fit)

* You can polish all the edges with a serger, but if you don’t have one, you can use the zig -zag modeof your sewing machine.




4. Iron interfacing on the back neck piece and on the front center pieces.




5. Sew all vertical cuts. (Sides, center, back)




6. Sew together on the shoulders the interlining neck back with the front parts.




7. Sew the shoulders of the jacket together.




8. Now join steps 6 and 7 positioning the pieces outside the jacket (inside out) and sew around theedge with 1cm margin.




9. Before turning the piece inside the jacket, make small cuts in the curved areas of the neck. (Helpslay better and not wrinkle the seams inside the garment)




10. Here are the pieces of the neck and front fold in to the jacket and ironed. I’ve done the bot tomsewing up the 3 cm margin I left with a few stitches by hand.




11. Do the same to the bottom of the sleeves.




12. Finally you just have to fix the sleeves. Start joining the side seam to the seam in the sleeve andposition the sleeve from there going up on each side. Dividing evenly the fabric.

* If this is the first time you sew a sleeve, don’t worry if you get it wrong and you find it hard… When Istarted sewing, this was what frustrated me the most, but with a little patience and practice, you willget it right. Don’t worry if you have to unpick 3 times… is part of learning.

Finally you have your jacket done! It’s a basic jacket with no linen, buttons or pockets, ideal for thosewho want to try for the first time to make a jacket from scratch.

Just download the pattern and print it on the same scale. The jacket is a size S-M. If you want tomake a larger size, you should be adding 0.50 cm in all horizontal seams for each size up.
