BACKGROUND• Distribution of Africa in the

19th century

• Conference of Berlin of 1984 and 1985

• 1905: Africa was controlled by European forces.

AFRICA’S DISTRIBUTION

CAUSESDecolonization happened by different

circumstances, which are:

• The desire of the indigenous people to becoming free

• The European distraction for the world matters

• Popular resentment for the racism and the equality

• To take away high economic load from slaves and supporting big empires, the allied forces promised the independence of Africa

INSIDE DECOLONIZATION

• Africa Muslim, are liberated for France, Italy and Great Britain.

• In Algeria, French colonists are opposed to the independence

• Liberated British and French colonies (1950-1960)

• Formation of African republics

INSIDE DECOLONIZATION

• Morocco expressed their ideals of independence through the Independence Party

• In Tunisia, the negotiation, which included the armed struggle, was in charge of Bourguiba, a representative of Neo-Destour party (meaning the New Constitution)

INSIDE DECOLONIZATION

• In Algeria, exploited a battle between the revolutionaries and the government that lasted until 1959, leaving a balance of approximately 500,000 deaths.

• With Evian’s agreements(1962), Algeria was recognized as a sovereign state, and the National Liberation Front took power.

INSIDE DECOLONIZATION

• In Angola, there was a battle, between the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola, supported by the communist Soviet Union and the National Front for the Liberation of Angola and the Popular Movement, supported by British, U.S. and South Africa.

CONSEQUENCES• BADS:

– Africa suffered a great political destabilization, economic poverty and dependence of the powers due to the national debt.

– Disputes exist nowadays as that of Chad and Libya, Ethiopia and Somalia, or Nigeria and Cameroon, for the arbitrary definitions of the borders in the continent

CONSEQUENCES• GOOD:

– Some countries continued receiving money, and the old industries continued working

– Schools, Hospitals, Companies, Houses are still being used by European people.

– Freedom for all the people

– End of oppression
