informing national mitigation and adaptation planning,
and international dialogue

By facilitating the development of a common process to

CLICC AT PRESENT
Development and testing of refined proposal through pilot projects with a
small number of countries
• CLICC 1st round of pilots are underway (November 2015 – March 2016)
• Countries that have confirmed they are undertaking CLICC pilots are:
UK, Russia, China, Vietnam, Ghana
• Presentation of the results and lessons learned from the CLICC pilots at
Adaptation Futures Conference, Rotterdam in May 2016
• Transition to a longer-term project through UNEP partnership – under discussion
• Raise the profile of CLICC among other countries
NEXT STEPS

Establishment of CLICC in UNEP
• UNEP will host a Secretariat to administer the day-to-day operations, finance and overall
coordination and management of the project activities;
• A Scientific Steering Committee will provide overall direction and scientific guidance to
CLICC;
• UNEP’s Division of Early Warning and Assessment (DEWA), Scientific Assessment
Branch will provide an institutional oversight of CLICC activities;
• Affiliated Partners are international organizations and UN agencies who could
substantially contribute to CLICC through collaborations and synergy with their relevant
ongoing projects, UNEP has already started consultation with WMO and UNFCCC;

• To establish a long-term CLICC initiative, UNEP is exploring supports to coordinate CLICC
activities at the international level.
• UNEP-Live and the Integrated Reporting Information System (IRIS) that provide safe
landing to setup a long-term international initiative for CLICC; UNEP-Live deploys the IRIS
at the national level, connecting to different Ministries and agencies to enable the sharing and
updating data and information.
• UNEP is working on:
– Immediate and long-term resources mobilization for CLICC
– Communications and outreach, COP21 and AF2016
– CLICC capacity building programme
