Division of Biochemistry Department of Oral Biology Outline We are mainly interested in following 3 topics concerning oral health, namely (1) the mechanism of salivary protein secretion, (2) regeneration of periodontal ligament, and (3) self-protection mechanism by peroxidases. To gain access to the individual goals, you can utilize many appropriate research approaches, including a wide variety of biochemistry, cell biology, and molecular biology techniques. We are also in collaboration with researchers in basic and clinical research divisions. Faculty members Professor; Taishin TAKUMA, Ph.D. Associate professor ; Toshiya ARAKAWA, M.B.A., Ph.D. Assistant professor/research associate ; Mihoko ONISHI, Ph.D. Taishin TAKUMA Toshiya ARAKAWA Mihoko ONISHI Postgraduate students Haruna KASHIO, D.D.S. (from Orthodontics) Main research in progress 1) Gene knockout with artificial endonuclease TALENs and CRISPR/Cas9 for the evaluation of SNAREs in salivary exocytosis. 2) Role of extracellular matrices and mechanical stress for regeneration of human periodontal ligament. 3) Study on the living body defense system that peroxidases are concerned.

Outline We are mainly interested in following 3 topics concerning oral health, namely (1) the mechanism of salivary protein secretion, (2) regeneration of periodontal ligament, and (3) self-protection mechanism by peroxidases. To gain access to the individual goals, you can utilize many appropriate research approaches, including a wide variety of biochemistry, cell biology, and molecular biology techniques. We are also in collaboration with researchers in basic and clinical research divisions.

Main research in progress 1) Gene knockout with artificial endonuclease TALENs and CRISPR/Cas9 for the evaluation of SNAREs in salivary exocytosis. 2) Role of extracellular matrices and mechanical stress for regeneration of human periodontal ligament. 3) Study on the living body defense system that peroxidases are concerned.
