never attended Leadership Training Conference or Fall Rally, I highly suggest you do! It’s a ton of fun and you get to discover what Key Club is all about! Remember this training session is mandatory for all officers who are looking to become distinguished.

I am also happy to announce that we have Divisional T-Shirts currently being designed! They will most definitely be purple and list all ten of our schools on the back. If you would like to order one be sure to attend the September Divisional! (~which is to be announced, so stay tuned!) The plan is to order them at the September Divisional and have them by Fall Rally so we can show off our Division 6 spirit!

I hope you enjoy the rest of this newsletter which highlights some of the great service projects we took part in over the summer, and I hope to see you all very soon!

Yours in friendship and service,

On Saturday, September 3, Division 6 held a very successful food drive at the Waldbaum’s in East Meadow for the Mary Brennan Inn Soup Kitchen of Hempstead. I am proud to announce we collected over $150 in cash which was used to purchase more food, and boxes upon boxes of non-perishables. Volunteers included Sacred Heart President Sarah Masessa, West Hempstead President Joe DiMarco, East Meadow President Josh Vogel, GC Tech President Michelle Layton, MacArthur Vice President Sammi Rescigno, and many others. Special guest appearances by: Key Club Governor Domenick Pesce, Circle K IP Governor Rickie Santer, and Cirlce K LTG Lauren Sacks. Thank you all for coming and making this food drive a success! Your hard work and time is appreciated by many!

On Wednesday, August 10, Levittown Key Clubbers Michelle Layton, Jasmine Blennau, Jade Blennau, Sammi Rescigno, Matt Rescigno, and Becky Hopkins participated in Camp Old Navy. Interning for the day they learned the ins and outs of retail business and what it’s like to work at Old Navy. In return, the Gap Foundation granted $250 which will be donated to Kamp Kiwanis. Kamp Kiwanis is aimed at providing fun, physical exercise and adventure. It strives to afford opportunities to participate in a creative outdoor group experience in a democratic setting of leadership and fair play. The program at Kamp Kiwanis is designed to mainstream all children, including up to 20 each session with special needs. It is non-competitive with emphasis on group and teambuilding.

SERVICE LEADERSHIP

Hey everyone! My name is Kim Evans. I am LTG Becky Hopkins’ new EA and the Secretary of W.T. Clarke High School. I hope you all had a great summer and are ready for a new school year.

Your Division 6 officers have been working on making this year a great one. Our back to school event, the Alzheimer’s Memory Walk is coming this weekend up on September 10th 2011, I hope to see you all there. If you need to contact me, you can send me a message on Facebook or email me!

So you all know me as the Lieutenant Governor of Division 6. But what you don’t know is I am also a proud member of the KPTC Service Leadership Committee as well as Chair of the New York District Key Club KPTC Committee. Committee members being my fellow lieutenant governors; Gresa Shala, Annie Porfido, and Helen Chen. For those of you who don’t know, KPTC stands for the Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Center, which is a complex program that draws on the vast resources of the hospital and Kiwanis to give critically injured children the best of care. Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Centers are located at the North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, Albany, and Buffalo.

Our goal for the New York District this year is to raise over $8,500 for KPTC. Key Clubbers are encouraged to raise money for this prestigious district charity and in return for their donation, clubs can receive fellowships to award deserving members. Another goal for our committee and district this year is to expand the “Safe Kids” program that KPTC in is partnership with, in order to

prevent children from trauma in the first place. We’re also aiming to increase Key Clubbers’ awareness and knowledge of KTPC.

The KPTC Service Leadership Committee met over the summer to plan events for this upcoming year. A Walkathon is in the process of being planned to raise money for this prestigious charity. More Safe Kids Trainings are also in the process of being planned as well as a video explaining the program. Division 6 Committee members included Annette Lebby, Brian Kenny, Gina Principato, Jasmine Blennau, and Kim Evans.

On September 16, some committee members will be attending the 16th annual KPTC Black and White Ball at Leonard’s of Great Neck. This annual fundraiser is held to celebrate the hard work that goes into fighting for children's lives each year, and to raise money for the Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Center Foundation.
