What is the Diversity Visa Program?

The Diversity Visa (DV) Program – popularly known as the Green Card lottery –

makes immigrant visas available to people from countries with historically low levels of

immigration to the United States

50,000 visas are available through the2019 DV program (DV-2019)

The rules are strict but simple and entries can be completed without the assistance of a third party

Many websites and individuals will try to mislead you into thinking they represent the

U.S. Government or can increase your chances

Eligibility is determined by place of birthnot citizenship or nationality

You may be eligible to enter DV-2019if you were born in one of thequalifying countries listed at

bit.ly/dvinstructions

If you were born in any of the following countries

you will not qualify for DV-2019 unless:

The United Kingdom (except Northern Ireland)

Bangladesh Brazil Canada China (mainland-born) Colombia

Dominican Republic El Salvador Haiti India Jamaica

Nigeria

Mexico

Pakistan Peru Philippines South Korea Vietnam

• Your spouse was born in a qualifying countryand is named on the DV entry

• At least one of your parents was born in a qualifying country and neither of your parents was born in your country of birthand neither of your parents was considered resident in your country of birth at the time of your birth

To qualify, you must also have at least one of the following:

Check bit.ly/dvinstructionsto find out if your education or work experience qualifies

• A high school education or its equivalent (successful completion of at least a 12 year course of elementary and secondary education)

• At least 2 years of qualifying work experience in the last 5 years in an occupation requiring at least 2 years of training or experience to perform

You will only qualify for DV-2019 if you are anative of a qualifying country

and you meet the education or work experience requirement

Be wary of websites or individualssuggesting otherwise – if you are not eligible

to enter, you cannot receive a visa!

You can only enter electronically – the entry form is free

dvlottery.state.gov is the only official DV website – beware of imitations!

You do not require the assistance of a third party to complete and submit an entry

You are responsible for the accuracy of your entry even if someone else submits it – if the data is incorrect you may be

ineligible to receive a visa!

You should always be physically present when your entry is completed

Entries can only be submitted between October 18, 2017

(12:00 noon Eastern Daylight Time/4:00PM GMT)

and November 22, 2017 (12:00 noon Eastern Standard Time/5:00PM GMT)

Do not wait until the final week to apply Late entries will not be accepted

IMPORTANT!!Due to a technical issue, the entry period that began on October 3 has been closed and any

entries made during that time have been excluded from the system

Entries submitted between October 3-10 are not valid and

will not count as duplicate entries

You will be disqualified if more than one entry is submitted for you,

no matter who submits the entries

The only exception is if you entered between October 3-10, 2017

Those entries are not valid and so will not count as a duplicate entry!

The selection is computer-generated and random, so don’t believe anyone saying

they can guarantee you a visa or improve your chances!

Results will be available from May 15, 2018, only at dvlottery.state.gov

You need your unique confirmation number to check your results so print your

confirmation page and store it safely

Keep your confirmation number until September 30, 2019

You can only find out the outcome of your entry online via the official Entry Status Check

Any letters or emails offering a visa or saying you’ve won the lottery are not associated

with the U.S. Government in any way

What happens if my entry is selected?

If your entry is selected, it does not mean you have “won” – it means you have the

opportunity to apply for an immigrant visa

Application instructions will be provided through the Entry Status Check website

Don’t delay in applying for the visa –visa numbers are limited and cannot be guaranteed to the end of the program

If your entry is selected, the Entry Status Check website will explain how and when to:

Only the interviewing consular officer can decide if you qualify for a visa!

Don’t make plans to move to the U.S. unless your passport contains

a valid immigrant visa

• Gather documents to prove you meet the eligibility requirements

• Undergo a medical examination

• Pay visa fees

• Schedule and attend a visa interview at U.S. Embassy London

Don’t believe any letters or emails sayingyou have “won” a visa, even if they claim to be

from a U.S. government official

Other scam warning signs include promises of a job and housing,

and requests for money via Western Union or similar services
