WHY WE’RE HERE
Nurturing the potential of every child and teen
We believe that all kids deserve the opportunity to discover who they are and what they can achieve.
That’s why, through the YMCA, millions of youth today are cultivating the values, skills and
relationships that lead to positive behaviors, better health and educational achievement.
Improving our community’s health and well-being
In neighborhoods across our community, the YMCA is a leading voice on health and well-being.
The Y brings families closer together, encourages good health and fosters connections through
fitness, sports, fun and shared interests. As a result, thousands of youth, adults and families are
receiving the support, guidance and resources needed to achieve greater health and well-being for
their spirit, mind and body.
Giving back and providing support to our neighbors
The YMCA has been listening and responding to our community’s most critical social needs for
88 years. Whether developing skills or emotional well-being through education and training,

AWAKEN NEW POSSIBILITIES BE ONE OF TONI’S KIDS AT CAMP WATCHAUG Toni’s Kids is an integration initiative designed to provide support for children with emotional and developmental challenges so that they can participate with typically developing peers in Y programs and activities. Toni’s Kids receive the benefit of modifications to camp activities, greater support by trained counselors and a smaller ratio of campers to staff members. Toni’s Kids participate in all regular activities and learn the YMCA core values of caring, honest, respect and responsibility with fellow campers. The Toni’s Kids Initiative enhances mutual respect among individuals of all abilities and helps every camper establish positive relationships and build lifelong social skills.

The Toni’s Kids Initiative was inspired by the memory of Antoinette Liguori who devoted much of her life to fostering the well-being of children. It is in this spirit that Toni’s family and friends honor her memory by
establishing this important program at the Ocean Community YMCA .

NEW SWIM LESSON LEVEL GUIDE
The new YMCA Swim Lessons program uses a skill-based approach designed to meet the needs of local Ys and the people they serve. The new swim lessons curriculum allows for both standardization and flexibility. The organization of the curriculum ensures that swim lesson programs look and sound the same at every Y across the country.

FALL 2017

20
PARENT/CHILD PARENT CHILD I/II (Ages 6 Months-3 Years)
The Parent/Child Swim Lesson Program provides children with the opportunity to become adjusted to the aquatic environment. For each class there must be a parent or trusted adult in the pool with the child. This level uses the process of repetition of skills, songs and games, and is designed to make your child’s first water experience safe and fun. Swim diapers are to be used for all children who are not potty-trained, we also recommend using plastic diapers over the swim diapers.
GOLDFISH (Ages 2-3)
The Goldfish swim lesson program will provide some of our youngest swimmers with the opportunity to transition from parent/child swim lessons to our progressive group lessons. Goldfish classes will be limited to a 1 instructor for every 4 swimmer ratio. Classes will be based around play and helping build each child’s confidence. Parents may get in the water to help transition.
PRESCHOOL SWIM LESSONS
The preschool swim lesson program provides children with an opportunity to learn skills at his/her own pace. Children are not forced to do any skill, but encouraged to try when they are ready. All classes are taught with a variety of instructional flotation devices. Our ratios are 5:1 for these levels.
PIKE (Ages 3-5)
This is a beginner level class for non swimmers. Flotation devices are used at this level.
EEL (Ages 3-5)

HEALTHY LIVING Swim Lessons
YOUTH SWIM LESSONS Youth Swim Lessons will give children the opportunity to learn in a student-centered environment where each child can learn skills at his/her own pace focusing on personal growth, stroke development, water sports and more!
POLLIWOG (Ages 6-12)
This is a beginner level class. Class ratio 6:1
GUPPY (Ages 6-12)
