Fellowship Time Before the 10 a.m. start of Sunday School classes, all are invited to enjoy a time of friendly gathering and hospitality in the Gathering Area of the Celebration Center. Starting at 9:30am, light snacks and beverages are lovingly provided by volunteers from the various adult classes, now available through the serving line. In the spirit of Christian hospitality, please take the time to greet someone you haven’t met along with sharing news with old fiends. If you are part of a class, please be kind to your teacher by helping them start on time. If you are looking for a class, ask a greeter, usher or one of the pastors for a suggestion.

Child Care Available Each Sunday, we are pleased to offer childcare from birth to

age 4 beginning at 8:15am. For those attending the third service, please pick up your child/children as soon as

possible after the end of the service. Thanks for entrusting us with your children and for your cooperation.

New Bible Study: Seeing Gray in A World of Black and White by Adam Hamilton Everyone agrees that America is polarized, with ever-hardening positions held by people less and less willing to listen to one another. No one agrees on what to do about it. This study is

for thinking persons of faith who want to model for the rest of the country a richer, more thoughtful conversation on the political, moral, and religious issues that divide us.

The Covenant Sunday School Class began this study in late December - all are welcome to come and join us in the Fellowship Hall near the kitchen.

Christian Canine Connection - Starts TODAY What is Christian Canine Connection? It is a six week basic dog obedience training class.

Will begin on Sunday, January 5, 2014 at 5pm in the Celebration Center. Class will be about an hour long. Class registration is open to dogs who are at least 12 weeks old at the beginning

of class and must have all age appropriate vaccinations prior to the first class. The handler must be old enough and mature enough to control the dog and follow directions.

There is a cost associated with the class, please call Kevin Moorehead at 874-6938 for more details.

Warwick Weekday Word Bible Study Class Please note that the Warwick Weekday Word Bible study with our pastors will

resume on January 9th.

2014 Offering Envelopes The 2014 offering envelopes are on tables outside the Fellowship Hall.

Please pick up your box as soon as possible. Thank you.

2014 Operating Budget Pledge Campaign Update

1/2/14

Thank you for all those who have responded positively to our 2014 pledge campaign for the operating ministry budget! We have received 138 pledges totaling $473,983.40. We are on our way to our goal, but we could use additional response!

If you haven’t pledged yet, please pray about how you are in partnership with God’s ministry and

consider making a pledge today. You can learn more by picking up a pledge sheet on the welcome table in the Narthex or the table at the back of the Celebration Center, or you can download a from our

website, www.WMUMC.org.

Our congregation’s faithfulness in giving allows us to join in God’s work of making disciples of Jesus for the transformation of the world. In this work, no contribution is insignificant.

We are certain that God has great things in store with your help in 2014.

Giving Has Never Been Easier . . .

Whether you want to give just once, or schedule regular transactions, we have simple convenient options for you. You can choose to bill

pay through your own bank, give online with e-giving, place contributions in the offering plate during worship or even mail contributions to the church

office. Visit our webpage, wmumc.org, use this QR code or see our financial secretary, Kathy Young, to get started.

Help for DUCO

Helping Others . . . . .

Kurtyka Family Update Please keep the Kurtyka family in your prayers! Albert is doing well post-surgery with his artificial heart at MCV/VCU Medical Center. He will remain in the hospital until a suitable heart is located and he reaches appropriate recovery milestones. Albert and Leora are members of our church who attend The Lampstand service. Albert works in Human Relations and Leora also works full-time. They have three children, Ava (4), Tyler (11) and Trey (15). Like other families, they have a mortgage payment and concerns about how much insurance will cover of his costly care, as well as costs with family traveling back and forth to Richmond each day. With the family concerns in mind, the pastors and church leaders have set up a "K-Account" for giving to this family from our church family. The family and friends are also working to raise other funds and have an on-line giving account. Everyone's goal is for Albert to focus on healing and not be burdened right now with financial weights as he awaits the transplant and extended recovery. To give to the WMUMC account for the Kurtykas, make your check payable to WMUMC and write Kurtyka Fund in the memo line. Giving may come through the mail to: WMUMC 38 Hoopes Road, Newport News, 23602 or in the offering plate at any service. If you have questions, please contact one of our pastors or the Church office at 757-877-2270. May God's peace rest upon this family and all who suffer in this Season of hope, Pastor Gina
