Students Get Fired Up Over Culinary Cup 2019!They came, they cooked, they conquered! Congrats to Los Angeles Harbor College’s Culinary Arts Team for capturing the first Culinary Cup title and taking home the Golden Chef’s Hat trophy. Teams from Los Angeles Trade-Technical and Los Angeles Mission colleges competed with Harbor in a Kitchen Battle Royale to test their skills in cooking,

baking and table placesetting competitions. Students from all schools took home medals for first, second and third places while Harbor had the accumulative high points to win the coveted, custom-made trophy. Next year, teams will gather at Mission College for the second annual Culinary Cup to see who brings home the trophy!

LATTC Topping Out HeldThe ceremonial “Topping Out” ceremony for the new, state-of-the-art Culinary Arts Building at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College occurred recently to note a key milestone in the construction project when the last piece of steel I-beam was hoisted into place. District, college and project construction officials gathered in May to sign the ceremonial beam that was installed as part of the project. The two-story, 71,102-square-foot building, with estimated cost of $48.4 million in Measure J bond monies, is expected to be completed by Fall 2020.

LATTC’s Culinary Arts Program is the oldest, continuously operating program of its kind at a community college in the nation, serving an estimated 800 students per year with degrees in culinary arts and professional baking as well as transfers to four-year universities.
