Invite family members, neighbors, co-workers, and community members to participate in a worthwhile charitable service program. After they witness the good the Knights can do, remind them of the council’s upcoming Church Recruitment Drive. Held during the weekends of October 7-8 and 14- 15, these drives should explain the benefits of joining the Knights of Columbus. After the drive, remember the follow-up phase. Assign prospect names to recruiting teams for personal follow-up visits. Within 48 hours , each prospect who completed a Membership Document (#100) or expressed interest in joining should have had a personal follow-up from a Knight. For complete information on how to conduct a successful Church Drive, consult the Membership Recruitment and Retention Manual (#10237) or visit kofc.org/drive . “Persecuted Christian Awareness Week” starts November 26th. More information will be forthcoming via e-mail and on kofc.org. In the meantime, continue to support the Order’s humanitarian efforts by ordering 5 inch olivewood crosses made by Christian craftsmen in the Holy Land. CAMPAIGN FOR PEOPLE WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES One of the most popular and successful programs conducted by local councils benefits people with intellectual disabilities by collecting funds outside stores and on street corners. In appreciation, the donor is offered a piece of candy, often a Tootsie Roll®. The high visibility of this program has led to the campaign being referred to as the “Tootsie Roll Drive.” While the nickname is understandable, it is misleading since the Knights of Columbus has no official tie to Tootsie Rolls or their manufacturer. Many councils participate in the same fundraising drive, but distribute other items. References to this program should highlight the positive aspects of the fundraising and not advertise candy. If councils in your district conduct this program, it is recommended that it be promoted as the “Campaign for People with Intellectual Disabilities.” IMPORTANT REMINDERS If councils in your district have a newsletter or website, have you contributed an article? Have each of the councils in the district held at least one First Degree exemplification so far this fraternal year? Are the councils in your district current with Supreme Council assessments? Failure to pay assessments prior to October 10th will result in the suspension of a council. Have you scheduled a strategy session with each of the councils in your district? Have you already set the date for your district’s Mid-Year Membership Meeting? Start planning now. If you have any questions during your term, please send an e-mail to [email protected] . NEXT WEBINAR The next webinar on “Council Officer Training” will take place on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. Eastern. It will repeat again at 8:30 p.m. Pacific time.
