Dear Rotarians: As I write this note, I have completed visits to 16 of the 39 clubs in our district. I have been impressed beyond words with every club I have visited - your enthusiasm is contagious. Spending time with each of you is the most rewarding experience I have enjoyed in my years in Rotary. I have never in my life been welcomed more warmly. These visits bring to life for me the words of our RI President Ray Klinginsmith—“Rotary’s greatest strength is its clubs.” By now most if not all of you have received your district directory. Each club was mailed two of the directories. They contain a wealth of information about our district, including contact info on every club in District 5750. Hats off and a tremendous Rotary thanks to Megan Elliott, President of the Midtown Club, and Courtney Lynch for their work on this directory. I’m sure you will find it most informative. During my club visits, I am in search of two primary facts about your club - the projects you have planned for the Rotary year and your support of the Rotary Foundation. Many of our clubs are now sustaining clubs and I encourage every club within the district to make this a goal for your club. I can’t close without commenting about the food served at your club meetings. It is without fail delicious. Oh the pounds I am gaining in the name of Rotary! Until next time, have a great Rotary day! 5 Reasons to attend the RI Convention in New Orleans!

It’s the last North America convention for five years It should be cheaper to attend (considering transportation and costs of hotel,

meals, etc.) than other venues. New Orleans is just a fun city – especially if you love music and food! It will be wonderful to celebrate the Rotary year with President Ray and 20,000 of

our closest friends from around the world. New Orleans is ready and waiting for us (and they’ve been waiting a long time!)

The District is hoping many Rotarians in District 5750 will take the opportunity to attend the Rotary International Convention in 2011. To help out, we have reserved a block of rooms at the Hotel Monteleone in New Orleans. Rotary Director Noel suggested this venue. We have 25 rooms blocked.. The cost is $209.00 plus tax and fees. Included in this are 5 "Vieux Carre Suites" at $375.00 plus tax and fees. We are holding the rooms for the dates beginning Friday, May 20 though and including Wednesday, May 25. Rotarians do not have to stay all 6 nights, but they must decide by Mid November. The exact day will be figured out soon. There is a $150 deposit, which we have paid in advance. When you make a reservation with us, you must pay the $150.00 deposit. Checks can be made to Rotary District 5750. On December 3, all sales are final and full pre-payment must made by the District to RI. So, we will have an earlier deadline, sometime in November to be announced soon. Also available are 3 "Riverside Suites" we can grab at $475.00++. The website for the Hotel is www.hotelmonteleone.com For now, folks wanting to reserve a room can contact Chuck Musgrave at [email protected]

CLUB NEWS

Paul McQueary, of the San Juan Rotary Club in Farmington, NM, presented a program at the District Conference entitled "Don't METH with us!" It is a Methamphetamine Awareness Program that any club in D5750 could begin in their community. The Cushing Club will discuss it in this month's board meeting and will likely select a chairman and begin the process of kicking this off in Cushing. Not only will it reduce the rampant abuse of Meth in our communities, it will also help 5th graders to learn how to make better and more healthy choices in other areas of their lives. There was a 10 page feature in the August 2010 Rotarian magazine beginning on page 36. Don't Meth With US is an excellent way our Rotary Clubs can change lives / save lives right here in our district.

Members of the MWC Rotary Club handed out 600 backpacks to 2nd graders in the Mid-Del City School area on Tuesday the 10th and Wednesday the 11th of August. The Boeing Company had provided the “Stuff” to insert. The children seemed to be very enthused over receiving these backpacks which had the RI Logo on.

On August 10, OKC Midtown Rotary teamed up with S&B’s Burger Joint for the restaurant’s Pay it Forward Tuesdays promotion. S&B’s chooses one non-profit organization to donate 10% of food proceeds to each Tuesday. OKC Midtown Rotary moved their meeting to S&B’s that evening, allowing for a fun night of fellowship for our group. Midtown also heavily promoted the event through social media and other avenues, and packed S&B’s for both lunch and dinner. This fun and easy fundraiser raised $207.00 dollars for Midtown, and was the second highest Pay it Forward Tuesday to date at S&B’s. If you would like to have a delicious burger and support a business that helps support Rotary, visit S&B’s at 5929 N. May in Oklahoma City.

West Oklahoma City - Spin Your Wheels More than a thousand bicyclists with big hearts braved the heat to spin their wheels for patients at The Children’s Center in Bethany, Oklahoma on Saturday, August 14. Organizers said the 14th annual Spin Your Wheels bicycle tour was a great success. “The riders and volunteers who participated are amazing examples of goodwill. The mass of people who came together for our patients was a striking visual of how much they care,” said Amy Coldren, special events coordinator. Riders from six states: Kansas, Arkansas, Texas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Illinois rode a vari-ety of distances along historic Route 66 to raise money for children with complex medical and physical disabilities at the Center. Courses ranged from 12 miles to 100 miles west of Bethany. The shortest route circled Lake Overholser near Yukon; others stretched through El Reno to Hinton, and then back. Organizers are still tallying proceeds which will be used for medical supplies and technology. “It’s a great feeling to see participants come back year after year to support the children,” said Albert Gray, chief executive officer. “We are very grateful for their loyalty to The Chil-dren’s Center.” Gray said proceeds from the event will be used for immediate needs of the 120 patients at the hospital. Spin Your Wheels is co-hosted by West Oklahoma City Rotary Club and is sponsored by Subway, The Oklahoman, Kimray Inc., Chesapeake Energy, IG, and Communication Federal Credit Union
