Founded in April 2010, District Eight Design creates work that is inspired by the industrial age and informed by our location in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Our workshop and office is located in a refurbished 20th-century rench Colonial townhouse facing the Saigon River.

District Eight Design began as a project to preserve and restore historically significant buildings, warehouses and objects in Ho Chi Minh City, once known as the “Paris of the Orient”.

We have since expanded to produce a line of custom furnishings which respond to these environments, combining authentic repurposed materials with handcrafted contemporary elements.

From our debut L’Usine Industrial

range to our new District Eight Modern collection, all of District Eight Design’s products are imbued with a genuine spirit of time and place. Combining design and build under one roof, every product is carefully conceived and crafted using authentic production methods whenever possible.

From our recast industrial bases to the patinas on our reclaimed timbers, products by District Eight Design are built upon a timeless foundation of durability and craftsmanship.

Here at District Eight Design we use two main types of timber. The first is a beautiful Reclaimed Hardwood sourced locally in Vietnam; this hardwood is reclaimed from old bridges, factories and housing. Rather than having the timber burnt or destroyed, we take the hardwood, treat it with natural oils to create a great looking slightly reddish, natural patina. The grains are a medium depth with uneven patterns, the finish is natural and slightly rougher than a contemporary timber. A perfect industrial timber. The second timber is a North American Oak. The oak is sourced from sustainable sources in North America. A temperate hardwood, the timber is a clean, consistent finish, with a regular shallow depth grain. A versatile wood which allows us to experiment with different oils and stains, creating our unique range of fumed and stained finishes. District Eight Design sources its cast iron from imported vintage machine parts, primarily Japanese weaving looms. These parts are sorted into salvageable components with the rest being melted down and recreated as table legs through hand laid sand-casting. Minor imperfections from this process add to the authenticity and uniqueness of the finished piece. Our Drake range utilises a clean, modern steel, hand-finished by our expert steel-workers.

SHUFFLEBOARD TABLEThis Shuffleboard Table is the latest addition to our industrial collection. The timber frame top is constructed from our signature reclaimed hardwood, a material that has been recycled from renovated colonial era bridges, factories and warehouses in Vietnam.

The game board is hand laminated North American white oak, finished with a high durability lacquer to ensure that the table islong lasting and resilient to heavy play.

The Shuffleboard comes with District Eight Design custom pucks, a full playing guide and easy to follow assembly instructions.

This wall system features 4 separate modules, a medium and a large modules with 5 shelves, a large 2 shelves unit with a desk and one large 3 shelves with a sliding doors cabinet.

These can all be juxtaposed and fitted to create a comprehensive wall unit, which can be stabilized using our adjustable floor glides made out of solid oak.

District Eight Design’s new Drake collection is inspired by the architecture of the machine age and mid-century design. It is designed for Brooklyn loft or Eastern Sydney living. It is not contemporary nor is it futuristic.

A combination of red and white oak is used to create subtle chevron geometric patterns. Timber finish is available with our famous dark seared and lighter fumed oak.
