Meet IP Naresh Aggarwal

Dr. Naresh is chairman of companies specializing in steel and agricultural products. A lifetime member of the Batala Smile Lions Club since 1974, President Dr. Naresh has served with great distinction as club president and international director. He also served as chairman of the Council of Governors for MD 321 in 1989-90. Dr. Naresh served as international director from 1998 to 2000. He earned great appreciation by achieving significant membership growth while serving as Global Membership Team area leader. He was a faculty and group leader for DGE Seminars at three International Conventions. He also served as international board appointee three times, and as Global Leadership Team constitutional area leader (CA-6). Dr. Naresh is trustee and vice chairperson of Lions Quest in India Foundation and has also served on the National SightFirst Committee. He is the chief patron of Dainik Prarthana Sabha, which operates charity projects in Batala. He is vice president of Age-Care India, a charitable society for the care and welfare of elderly people. He has been trustee and patron to many other projects. Dr. Naresh and his wife, Navita, also a Lion and Melvin Jones Fellow, have two sons, one daughter and seven grandchildren. Dr. Naresh also shares a birthday with the founder of Lions Clubs International, Melvin Jones. 1. To set the standard for a successful new District by implementing a smooth transition through good communication and cooperation. To promote unity with the goal of “Together We Serve”. To work with GLT & GMT to increase Lion Leaders and Membership.

DG John Bond and Lion Carol

District Governor/PDG John Bond is a 26+ year member of the Germantown Lions Club with 25 years of perfect attendance. He was club President in 1996-97, earning the coveted 100% designation. He served as Zone Chair from 1999 to 2001, and District 13-H Governor in 2003-04. DG/PDG John has served two terms on the state building committee and two terms on the state leadership team. With his two brothers, he owns Bond Machine Shop in Franklin, Ohio. He has been married to his wife Carol for 37 years and they have four daughters two sons in law and two grandchildren. DG/PDG John enjoys cooking and cooks for the community meal at his church once a month and also once a month for the Dayton Ronald McDonald House. Other hobbies include playing with his grandchildren, fishing, growing hops, and listening to a ball game on his back porch, possibly with a beer and cigar in hand. Through his many community projects, it is obvious that John enjoys giving back to the community especially through Lions Club.

Dr. Naresh Aggarwal, of Batala, Punjab, India, was elected to serve as international president of Lions Clubs International at the association’s 100th International Conven-tion, held in Chicago, Illinois, USA, June 30 through July 4, 2017.

1st VDG Lydia Houser and Lion Ric

Lion Lydia joined the Mad River Lions Club in March,1999 and has been very active in the club since that time. She has served as Tail Twister, Board Member, each of the Vice Presidents and President. Lion Lydia is currently serving the club as Membership Director. She is also chairperson of the Mad River Lions Constitution and By-Laws and the Scholarship Committee. Lion Lydia stays very involved in her club's fundraisers and service projects. She has also served as Zone Chair, District 13H Newsletter editor (2008-2012), Lioness Liaison, Convention Tail Twister for many years, and is on the Ohio Lions Eye Research Foundation. Lion Lydia is currently on the USA/Canada Forum Ohio committee for the upcoming 2018 USA/Canada Forum in Columbus. Lion Lydia is a Melvin Jones Fellow (presented by Germantown Lions). She has also had 100% attendance since joining the Lions. Lion Lydia has received numerous awards: International President's Award (2010-2011), Council of Governor's Award of Merit, and Council Chairman's Award of Excellence (2008-2009). She also became a Guiding Lion in 2016 and has been a Club Excellence Facilitator. Professionally, Lion Lydia has had a successful and

blessed career at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base for 35+ years. She is currently the Chief, Configuration Data Management, Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance and Special Operations Forces Directorate. Lion Lydia is married to fellow Lion, Ric Houser.

They have four children (Chris, Jason, Jeremy and Rachelle) and nine grandchildren. In Lion Lydia's spare time, she enjoys traveling

(especially cruising and going to the Smoky Mountains), reading, shopping and sports. She is an avid Kentucky Wildcats basketball fan and Ohio State football fan who loves watching her beloved teams.

DISTRICT GOVERNOR GOALS

1. By June 30, 2018, the district will add a total of 138 members, including transfers, and re-instated members.

2. The district will attain a percentage of 35% female members by the end of the fourth quarter. 3. By the end of the 2017-18 fiscal year, the district’s membership drops will not exceed 128 members. 4. Develop and maintain an effective system of 2 way communication between the district governing team and the clubs in the district. 5. By the end of May, 2018 the district will have 13 recently certified Guiding Lions that can be assigned to serve as Rebuilding Lions in clubs that are under 12 members.

DISTRICT COMMUNICATIONS In order to reduce the number of calls anyone would be required to make, and to expedite the flow of information, the following procedure for notification within the District, should be observed:

We sincerely care what happens to our 13 OH6 Lions and their families. District 13 OH6 offers a memorial service for deceased Lions which is conducted by one of our Chaplains at the family’s request

HEALTHY CLUB AWARD Time Frame: JULY 1, 2017 to MARCH 31, 2018 Purpose: Lions Clubs in District OH6 are as varied as the communities in which they meet. The resources available to support Lions Clubs can be vastly different from club to club. In recognition of that diversity, this award has been created to recognize the clubs, large or small, which demonstrate the most improvement in membership and retention. This award is intended to encourage growth and enhancement of your Lions Club, District OH6 and Lions Club International to ensure that Lions Clubs will continue to fulfill the motto: “We Serve”. Award Description: The annual Healthy Club Award has been established to recognize membership improvement that clubs make during the Lions’ year.

1. Show a net membership growth 2. Verify a successful retention outcome

It is also intended to support the “Net Plus One”, “Healthy Club Initiatives”, and the “Club Excellence Process” within our district and ensure the future of the valuable contributions Lions Clubs make to their communities. Awards: There will be three awards in this category. Each year there will be three awards presented to clubs which have demonstrated excellence in membership and retention practices. The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place club winners will be announced at the District 13 OH6 Convention. Documentation:

Community awareness of Lions projects and fundraisers This award is also intended to support a public relations framework within the district, club, and community all of which increase awareness of the valuable contributions which Lions Clubs make. AWARDS: Each year there will be three awards presented to clubs which have demonstrated excellence in communicating the Lions Club message (i.e. mission, goals, community contributions) The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place club award winners will be announced at the District OH6 Convention. DISTRICT GOVERNOR’S CONTEST Time Frame: APRIL 1, 2017 to MARCH 31, 2018 (except for MMR and MAR reporting as listed below) PURPOSE: Effectively reporting activities to District Officers and Lions Club International assures that your members get the credit they deserve for all of their time and effort. Furthermore, participating in club visitations; attendance at zone, state, and international functions; and contributing to state and LCI programs result in stronger members and leadership. This award will recognize clubs which are consistently on time with their reporting and show interest in strengthening their club through district, state, and international involvement. AWARD DESCRIPTION: The annual District Governor’s Contest has been established to encourage 1. Timely reporting 2. Inter-club activities 3. Attendance at district, state, & international functions 4. Support of Lion’s State and International programs and the motto: We Serve This award is also intended to improve the relationship between the clubs, the district, and LCI. Through participation in such activities, members and leadership will grow in ability as well as numbers. AWARDS: There will be 4 divisions for this award: Division definitions will be announced in the future. To be presented at the OH6 District Convention will be 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place club award winners as calculated by a point formula, tabulated by selected qualified Lions. NOMINATION/SELECTION: Clubs must be nominated for the award. This can and, in most cases, will be done by the club itself with a member designated to complete the nomination form and supply support materials. Nomination forms will be posted on the district website and available at Zone Meetings. The judges’ decision will be based on the nomination form and support materials. These forms MUST be mailed and postmarked to the District Governor no later than March 31, 2018.

REQUIREMENTS

Time Frame: July 1, 2017 to June 30, 2018 The following requirements must be fulfilled: 1. The club has complied with the association’s constitution and bylaws as well as the policy of the International Board of Directors, and has refrained from any action encouraging unauthorized uses of the name, goodwill, emblem, the marks “Lions,” “Lions Clubs,” “Lioness,” “Leo,” “Lions International” or “Lions Clubs International” and other insignias of this association. 2. The club has conducted at least three service projects during the year in line with the International Program. 3. The club achieved a net growth in membership or sponsored one new Lions Club. 4. The club does not have an unpaid balance of over US $50.00 owed to the International Association over 90 days. 5. The club has hosted regular club events and reported Membership, Service Activities and New Club Officers in a timely manner by LCI due dates. 6. All officer positions were filled by qualified Lions and a majority attended a club officers leadership training program. The club was represented at zone meetings. 7. New members were properly inducted and involved in service activities and/or committee work. 8. The club has publicized the club’s service activities. 9. The club has made a contribution to LCIF.

100% SECRETARY AWARD

REQUIREMENTS All information for this award will be taken from the MMRs and MARs from July 1, 2017 through June 30, 2018. The awards will be given at the beginning of the 2018-19 Lions Year. These requirements must be completed during the 2017-18 service year and applied for as instructed below.

1. All MMRs posted on the LCI website, and emailed by the last day of the month to district officers and zone chair, or postmarked by the 20th of the month if mailed.

2. All MARs posted on the LCI website, and emailed by the last day of the month to district officers and zone chair, or postmarked by the 20th of the month if mailed.

3. Payments of International and District per capita fees within 30 days of billing and reported on MARs.

4. Post New Officer Report on LCI website by May 15, 2018.

5. Meet six (6) of the following nine (9) requirements: a) Attend 2017 Secretary training. b) Attend all three of your zone meetings c) Attend the 2018Winter Retreat d) Attend the District, State, or International Convention. e) Sponsor at least one (1) new member. f) Have 100% attendance for the year. g) All MMRs filled in completely and accurately. h) All MARs filled in completely and accurately. i) Participate in an inter-club visitation. To empower volunteers to serve their communities, meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace and promote international understanding through Lions clubs.

Lions Name On June 17, 1917 at the invitation of Melvin Jones, delegates met in Chicago. The only point of contention was the selection of a name for the new organization. Melvin Jones researched the idea of calling the new organization Lions. He was convinced that the lion stood for strength, courage, fidelity and vital action. On a secret ballot the name Lions was chosen over several others.
