Samsung Commercial DisplaysDisplays

The Samsung Commercial family of displays can be controlled with Mira Connect™, Aveo Systems’ smart control appliance.

Mira Connect communicates and controls Samsung Commercial displays either over an Ethernet interface directly to the display or over an RS-232 connection using the Global Cache IP2SL IP to serial interface.

To control the Samsung Commercial display over a direct Ethernet connection, you must set the Network Standby setting to On in order for API commands to function after the display has been powered off. Using the display’s IR remote, press the home button, HOME , and navigate to More Settings > System > Power Control > Network Standby and select On. If set to ‘Off’ (the default value), the display will not turn on over Ethernet once it has been powered off.

To control the Samsung Commercial display over RS-232, press the home button, HOME , and navigate to ID Settings > PC Connection Cable and choose RS232C cable. If you don’t make that change, you will not be able to control the system over RS-232.

To integrate a Samsung Commercial display with Mira Connect using RS-232, first set up the GlobalCache IP2SL device on the network. Next, add the Samsung Commercial display to the room in Mira Portal (https://mira.aveosystems.com), enter the IP address of the GlobalCache IP2SL device and press ‘add equipment’.

Mira Connect will connect to the Samsung Commercial display and show the status of the connection. Mira Portal will show the equipment status as a green circle if the connection is valid, otherwise the warning symbol, ! , will appear indicating the IP address is not correct or the display’s RS-232 settings do not match the settings on the Global Cache IP2SL.

To specify which video inputs are used on the display, select Edit from the device’s menu, select the Video Inputs tab and enable an input, select an icon, and enter text labels for the desired inputs. This will create a display menu as shown on page 2. While the Mira Connect equipment driver supports all inputs available on Samsung Commercial displays, enable the only particular video inputs that are available on your display and that you intend to use.

See the Mira Connect Administrators Guide for more information about using Mira Portal to set up Mira Connect.

Important information about the integration is summarized below.

Control Interface Options

1. Network connection with TCP, port 1515, using the display’s built-in Ethernet interface.

While this method does not require a Global Cache IP2SL device, the Samsung Ethernet interface closes its TCP connection each time the display is powered on. As a result, Mira Connect may indicate that the display has gone offline and then indicate that the display has come back online upon powering on the display. If the display is in a site and room that has text messages enabled, text messages may be sent every time the display is powered on. To prevent text messages on display power up, place the room in Mira Portal to a site that doesn’t have text messaging enabled, or use the Global Cache IP2SL interface to control the display over RS-232.

2. Network connection with TCP, port 4999, using the Global Cache IP2SL interface.

Use Global Cache’s iHelp program to discover the device’s IP address, then browse into the device to set the desired static IP address and set the baud rate to 9600bps (the default). The GlobalCache IP2SL (part number 151.0010.001) is available as an accessory from Aveo Systems.

Ensure the baud rate on the Global Cache IP2SL matches the baud rate configured on the Samsung Commercial display. Default RS-232 settings for the Samsung Commercial
