Under the breeding program of Dr. Harry Klee, the foremost authority on all things Tomato, the great Tomato flavor we’ve all come to know, love and, quite honestly, miss, has finally been bred back into a plant with all of the benefits of modern Tomato breeding. Heirloom flavor with modern disease resistance and yield is the motto of these two Tomatoes. Through scientific analysis and consumer taste paneling at the University of Florida Food Science and Human Nutrition department, Dr. Klee and staff were able to identify all of the flavor molecules critical to making Tomatoes taste delicious. And after years of testing, they were finally able to combine great flavor with all the agronomic specifications important to the farming industry, creating these two new jewels.

‘Garden Gem’ is an F1 hybrid, categorized as a semi-determinate-snacker Tomato that’s perfect for salads, sauces, and a quick bite in the garden. ‘Garden Treasure’ is an F1 hybrid, tagged as an indeterminate-slicer Tomato that’s great for sandwiches, salads, and sauces. Both tomatoes provide a smooth, balanced flavor with acid and sweetness.

Ag producers looking to extend their season will see the same great disease resistance and yield as expected with modern Tomato varieties. More than that, they have the advantage of a longer production cycle, as these two varieties were bred in the South to take the heat and produce longer into the season than other market varieties. And, unlike traditional heirloom varieties that just give you flavor, these Tomatoes boast a robust disease resistance package, with excellent shelf-life. All while pushing yield to the next level with extended season performance.

If you want the flavor with high performance, try these two new great Tomato varieties from Proven Winners®, which will be offered as seed packets to our ag customers or as plant starters in the iconic white Proven Winners® pots at retail. ‘Garden Gem’ and ‘Garden Treasure’: The perfect solution for Tomato gardeners, farmers, and enthusiasts everywhere.
