n the late 1800s, Don Juancho Nieto Meléndez, the inspiration for Rum Diplomático and its label, travelled the Caribbean in search of the finest beverages of every culture he visited. Known as the premier spirits collector in Venezuela, his collection became known as the “Ambassador’s Reserves”.

on Juancho’s dedication, chivalry and authentic personality inspired the creation of Diplomático Rum in 1989 out of a partnership between Venezuela’s best rum distillers and Seagram’s International. Their Reserva Exclusiva formed part of its Rare Rums of the Caribbean collection. After Seagram’s sold the distilleries back to its Venezuela distillers, Diplomático Rum continued to build on its past success with additional expressions including Añejo, Reserva, Blanco, Single Vintage and Ambassador.

um Diplomático is one of the most awarded rum in the world, and its master distiller is the only person to have won “Master Blender of the Year” two times (2011, 2013) from London’s Golden Rum Barrel Awards. The Rum Diplomático distilleries are certified with ISO 14001 in recognition of its environmental and sustainability initiatives.
