OSTRÓW TUMSKI

THE WROCŁAW ZOO

called the Wrocław Vatican was the place of

the original settlement, which was expanding

throughout the years. From the late Middle Ages

the area has belonged to the church; at present it is

a place with the largest number of cathedrals and

churches. Gaslights, traditionally lit by a lamplight-

er wearing a black cloak and a hat, also give some

magic to the place.

is the largest and oldest zoological garden in Po-

land. On average, it is visited by 2500 people every

day. The Africanarium is currently its greatest at-

traction. It is an oceanarium in which one can ad-

mire the fauna and flora of Africa.

WROCŁAW MARKET SQUARE

THE RACŁAWICE PANORAMA

213 metres long and 78 metres wide. It is one

of the largest old marketplaces in Poland, sur-

rounded on the four sides by as many as 60

tenement houses, with 11 streets beginning

here. The inhabitants of Wrocław and their

guests usually meet at several landmarks in the

market square: the pillory, the Source foun-

tain, and the Aleksander Fredro monument.

In the north-western corner of the market square

there are two medieval tenement houses called

“Hansel” and “Gretel”, with an arcade between

them. The Wrocław market square is vibrant with

life throughout the year. This is where traditional

Christmas fairs and St. John’s fairs are held, as well

as New Year’s Eve events, all kinds of festivals, and

military, academic and religious events.

is a  monumental painting, 114 metres long and

15 metres high. It depicts the victorious Battle of

Racławice of April 1794 in which Poles defeated

the Russians. It was the artists’ intention to give

viewers an impression of being in the middle of

events. A special kind of set decorations placed in

front of the painting, lighting, and a  panoramic

perspective render its multidimensional character

and make it possible to compare the effects used

in the painting to those applied in the modern 3D

technology.

THE CENTENNIAL HALL

is one of the greatest works of the modern 20th

century architecture. Constructed according to the

plans of Max Berg, it is listed as a UNESCO World

Heritage Site. The cupola of the Centennial Hall

has an inner diameter of 65 m, and the building

is 42 m high. The main hall is surrounded by lob-

bies. The auditorium and the area in front of the

stage can house as many as 10 000 people. Since

2009 the largest multimedia fountain in Poland

has been located near the Centennial Hall. It offers

an attractive spectacular show. On weekends, one

can view special shows with music, lighting and

multimedia animations.

THE SKY TOWER

a modern building which has become a symbol of

the dynamically developing city. It is a place where

business and commerce merge with daily life. Be-

cause of its 50 floors, the Sky Tower has gained the

title of the highest residential and office buildings

in Poland. The highest observation deck in Poland

is located on the 49th floor of the building.

THE WROCŁAW DWARFS

small sculptures which have become an integral

part of the city space. Ever since 2005 their num-

ber has been growing. They are placed near insti-

tutions, company offices, and tourist attractions

as symbols of their activity. One of the tourist at-

tractions is Wrocław sightseeing along “the dwarf

route”, which is facilitated by maps showing the

dwarfs’ location.

MPK

[CITY TRANSPORT SYSTEM]

Day buses and trams usually run on

work days from 5.00 a.m. to 11.00 p.m.,

and on weekends and holidays from

6.00 a.m. to 10.00 p.m. Night buses

run from 11.30 p.m. to 5.00 a.m., every

half an hour, and meet at the PKS Bus

Station from where they go to all di-

rections of the city.

If you use the city transport system,

it is best to use the jakdojade.pl

search engine and app .

TAXI

There is one charging zone for taxi

transport, and the rates per kilometre

are maximum prices determined by

the City Council.

BICYCLES

The fastest way to move around the

city is by bicycle, since you can avoid

traffic jams. Since 2011 the Wrocław

City Bike network has been function-

ing in the city. Approximately 100

rental points offer 700 bikes for rent.

You can ride for the first 20 minutes

free of charge. You need to register in

the Nextbike system first.

The current routes and parking lots

can be found at: https://www.wro-

claw.pl/trasy-i-parkingi-rowerowe

SCOOTERS

Electric scooters can also be rented in Wrocław by means of the Lime appli-cation.

A valid MPK ticket also makes it possible to use passenger trains running between

all trains stations in Wrocław with no extra charge. Students of Polish schools of

higher education can use discount tickets (50% discount) on condition they have a

valid student ID card. Tickets can be bought in special ticket machines located at bus

stops. You can also pay the fare on the bus/tram, using an electronic ticket punching

machine or by means of the URBANCARD mobile application.

Wrocław is a city of heavy traffic. Every day, over 20 000 vehicles come to Wrocław. Twice a day, in the

morning and in the afternoon, local radio stations inform listeners about traffic jams in the streets of the

city. In order to help alleviate traffic congestion in the city centre, Park and Go parking lots have been being

established for several years near city transport stops, train stations and transport interchange facilities.

A detailed price list for the parking zones and information concerning other private parking lots is available at:

In the course of a study programme students need to complete four student practical training periods:

administration, criminal law, civil law and commercial law training. The objective of practical training is

to extend the knowledge acquired during the studies and to apply it in practice, to develop self-reliance,

to become familiar with the activities of institutions providing training programmes in many various

aspects, to gain experience necessary to write a diploma paper and to choose the future career path.

Practical training programmes last 1 month and their principles are specified in the practical occupa-

tional training regulations of University of Law.

STUDENT PRACTICAL TRAINING

THE LAW IN THE FUNCTIONING OF THE JUSTICE SYSTEM

LEGAL SERVICES FOR BUSINESSES AND CONSUMERS

We emphasize the practical approach to knowl-

edge acquisition. Classes are conducted mainly

by academic teachers and practitioners who are

specialists in their fields (judges, public prosecu-

tors, solicitors, notaries, legal counsels and repre-

sentatives of the world of business). We guarantee

your participation in an extensive practical training

and placement programme. We also have our own

courtroom used for hearing simulations. When you

graduate you will have the chance to apply for a

selected legal training programme to become a

judge, public prosecutor, solicitor, notary public

or legal counsel.

Safety and legal stability are important for every-

one. In our practical classes you will learn how to

protect consumers, entrepreneurs or a company

from risks resulting from the lack of knowledge of

legal regulations. You will acquire valuable knowl-

edge of counselling and legal aid in the area of

consumer rights as well as pursuing claims. You

PROPER CONDITIONS TO STUDY

A school is above all students. Bearing this in mind, the University of Law offers students an extensive

scholarship system which allows them to focus entirely on studying. Under this system, students can

apply for such financial assistance as a rector’s scholarship, a maintenance grant, a grant for disabled

people, bonuses increasing the amount of a maintenance grant, all kinds of allowances and discounts

for students actively participating in the school’s life.

The very location of the school – on the Piasek Island on the Odra River, right next to Ostrów Tumski with

its magnificent monuments of history - is also a significant attraction for students. Although the seat of

the University of Law is located in the very heart of Wrocław, both the natural barrier separating it from the

remaining part of the city, as well as the surrounding sacral and university buildings and Ossolineum foster

concentration on studying, which is so important in the educational process. The ACADEMIC CAREERS

OFFICE is a very active unit of the school. A carrier development counsellor will provide you with individual

consultations there. Full-time and part-time students will get access to practical training and placement

offers. Every field of study has its own practical training supervisor who is responsible for the factual and

formal supervision of practical training.

ERASMUS+

TOLES

Since 2017 students of the University of Law have

had the opportunity to participate in international

student exchange schemes under the Erasmus+

Programme. The offer comprises one semester or

one year study programmes at a partner universi-

ty (e.g. in Italy, Spain and Turkey) or professional

training practice programmes. The Erasmus+ Pro-

gramme is a guarantee of a chance to develop in

an international student community and to get to

know the culture, language and customs of other

European states.

The University of Law is the examination centre

in Lower Silesia authorised to conduct the pres-

tigious TOLES examination (Test of Legal English

Skills). It is an international examination testing

the knowledge of the language of law. It is intend-

ed for practising lawyers, trainees and law students

interested in acquiring a certificate recognized in

the international lawyer community as a confir-

mation of acquiring practical skills in the field of

legal English.
