BEATLES DISCOGRAPHY: EP’s EP (Extended Play), es un acrónimo anglosajón que traducido significa (duración extendida) y se utiliza como denominación para un formato de grabación musical. La duración de un EP es muy larga para ser como un single, y muy corta como para considerase como álbum. Inicialmente se llamó EP al disco de vinilo de 7 pulgadas de diámetro, grabado a 33⅓ RPM. Esta diferencia de velocidad con respecto al sencillo grabado a 45 RPM le permitía tener una duración mayor (un máximo de 25 minutos, 12'30" por cada cara) frente a la duración del simple, cuya duración máxima no podía superar los 15 minutos. Cuando los vinilos se estandarizaron a 33⅓ RPM, se llamó EP a aquellos discos de 7" que tenían más de una canción por cara. Actualmente, un EP tiene una duración máxima de 20-25 minutos y suele ser un disco tipo Mini-CD. A partir de ese tiempo ya se debe hablar de un álbum en formato CD. Sin embargo algunos EP han sido publicados en el formato estándar del CD.

BEATLES DISCOGRAPHY: LP’s Un disco LP (de la expresión inglesa Long play) o disco de larga duración es un disco de vinilo de tamaño grande, 12" (30 cm), y en los cuales se puede registrar, en formato analógico, un máximo de unos 40-50 minutos de sonido por cara. Un disco LP suele constar de unas diez canciones, aunque depende de su longitud. También hay LP fabricados en plástico, aluminio u otros materiales. Normalmente están grabados a una velocidad de 16, 33 y 1/3 y rpm. Los primeros LP se comercializaron hacia 1948. Este tipo de disco fue la principal manera de publicar música grabada durante los años 50, 60, 70 y 80 del siglo XX. A partir de mediados de años 80, los LP empezaron a perder protagonismo a costa de los discos compactos, más pequeños y resistentes. Aunque todavía son cotizados por coleccionistas, audiófilos. Algunos DJ’s utilizan este formato para hacer sus mezclas, sin embargo estos discos son especiales para hacer mezclas porque tienen mayor resistencia.
