Disaster Recovery in the Naviga Cloud With Amazon’s EC2 Elastic Compute Cloud, Naviga Cloud provides high availability and rapid disaster recovery

Real-time replication between zones ensures live availability. Two-hour snapshots prevent corrupt data from inadvertently being replicated to other zones. With software-defined network attached storage, Naviga delivers a robust combination of data cloning and rapid application performance. For an additional level of redundancy, Naviga can provide data redundancy and disaster recovery in a separate AWS geographic region for an additional charge. The Naviga team will build a standby instance at a reduced cost that can be scaled up in the event of a major disaster situation.

Security with Amazon Web Services and Naviga Cloud Naviga trusts Amazon for its cloud hosting because The AWS Global Infrastructure is designed and built for redundancy and reliability, from regions to networking links to load balancers to routers to firmware. With its EC2, it lets us place resources, such as instances and data, in multiple locations. Amazon EC2 is hosted in over 21 geographic regions with multiple, isolated locations known as Availability Zones. Storage of your resources persists independently from the life of an instance and is automatically replicated across multiple servers in an Availability Zone to prevent the loss of data from the failure of any single component. As part of Naviga’s standard cloud hosting solution, we include services in two separate Availability Zones within a region. This robust value-add is included in the price of our Disaster Recovery solution for every Naviga Cloud customer hosted in AWS.

Success in the Storm The storms caused power outages in six states as well as significant damage and flooding. Some of our clients had to abandon their offices and report from offsite locations. Website page views surged over 24 times the normal rate. Despite all this, Naviga customers experienced zero downtime.

Navigating the 2018 Hurricane Season Hurricanes Florence and Michael threatened to be some of the worse to hit the East Coast and Florida panhandle in years. We knew the challenges to our news media customers would extend beyond protecting their data. People from all over the world would be turning to them for news, updates and especially pictures and video. This meant an increase on server demands in addition to the challenge of the storms themselves. Naviga’s Network Operations Center got to work well ahead of the storm, rearranging maintenance schedules, setting contingency plans and coordinating with our customers so they knew what to expect should an emergency arise. We even sent our customers tips for maximizing load speeds for images. With additional Naviga personnel on standby to deal with any emergencies, we were ready to weather the storm with our customers.
