Throughout Sefton there are a range of leisure centres providing activities and resources for all ages to enjoy. In Sefton we are constantly striving to improve these centres to ensure ALL members of the community can access these facilities.

As part of the Aiming High For Disabled Children (AHDC), Transforming Short Breaks programme you told us that some of the changing facilities in Seftons’ leisure centres were not good enough. Using AHDC capital money we have been able to update our changing facilities and provide training for sta� on how to use this equipment safely. The following pages detail each of the Active Sefton leisure centres across the borough and the accessible changing facilities which are now on o� er.

Aiming High for Disabled Children

This fully accessible leisure centre features residential accommodation, classroom facilities, short breaks lounge, restaurant and bar, training kitchen, � tness suite and outdoor water sports and has been designed to provide disabled access to water sports.

Facilities include accessible changing facilities, and w.c.’s, hoists on the jetty to give access to boats, wide circulation routes and automatic doors. The lift to the � rst � oor accommodates up to 13 people or 2 wheelchair users with all � oors and walls being colour contrasted to be of maximum bene� t to individuals who are visually impaired.

Accessible changing facilities include:

• Mobile shower chair• Mobile hoists for use in changing

areas, gym and bedrooms• Tracked hoist in changing room• Hydraulic shower trolley• IFI (Inclusive Fitness Initiative) gym

equipment• Wheels for all bikes• Adaptive Sailing Boats

Dunes Splash World provides a combined leisure centre and water based theme park on one site. On the ground � oor there is a large main pool and small learner pool in the leisure side of the complex with Splash World pools and rides also located on the ground � oor. Access to both pools on the Dunes side of the centre is available through the Splash World accessible changing rooms.

In addition to the accessible changing facilities Dunes Splash World o� ers:

• Self propelled mobile shower chair• Mobile shower chair• Paediatric tilt & recline mobile shower chair• Poolside hoist• Tracked hoist in changing room• Hydraulic shower trolley

In addition to wet side activities, the centre encompasses a � tness suite, activity studio with a range of � tness classes and large sports hall. Access to the centre is via the ground � oor ramp entrance through automatic entrance doors. Accessible toilets and changing rooms are available on both the wet and dry sides of the centre and a lift provides access to the � tness suite and studio on the � rst � oor.

This newly built leisure centre and library consists of two swimming pools, a library, IT Suite, � tness suite, aerobics studio, sauna/steam suite and meeting rooms. Designed to be fully accessible for disabled customers, access to the centre is through ground � oor electronic doors with a lift provided to the � rst � oor and disabled parking bays.

Accessible changing facilities are provided on site in addition to a range of other facilities including:

• Poolside changing room• Hydraulic shower trolley • Mobile shower chair • Tracked hoist• Easy steps into both pools • Poolside aquatic lift (portable)• Hoist to place person in aquatic lift

Bootle Leisure Centre is located in the heart of North Park, Bootle and o� ers both wet and dry facilities with a 25m swimming pool and leisure pool, large sports hall, activity studio and sauna & steam suite. On the � rst � oor of the centre, the fully inclusive � tness suite holds IFI accreditation. Access to the centre is via the front entrance and is 60 yards from the nearest disabled parking.

A range of inclusive changing facilities include:

• Accessible changing rooms with emergency alarms and chairs

• Mobile poolside hoist• Mobile shower chair• Lift to the � rst � oor

Litherland Sports Park features a six lane athletics track hosting wheels for all bikes, synthetic turf pitches, activity studio and � tness suite compliant with IFI requirements. The centre bene� ts from accessible changing rooms on both � oors, a lift and double width internal doors, a reception counter which can be lowered and all signage is in tactile and Braille format.

In addition to the designated changing facilities, all changing rooms have accessible toilet facilities and � xed shower chairs as well as disabled parking bays close to the front doors.

For those of you who know “the NAC”, you may be aware that a new centre is being built alongside the current building. The centre will include a library, � tness suite, crèche, IT suite, youth club, sports hall and most excitingly Jake’s Sensory World - a multi sensory space for disabled children and their families. Changing facilities in the new site will include hydraulic shower trolleys and there will be a tracked hoist throughout.

We have tried to make our facilities as accessible as possible but recommend that you call or visit centres to discuss your individual needs.
