The sampling of material obtained by trenching is still a valid exploration technique. As for the application of the twig, this directory of Arizona exploration companies will be of little value.

ARIZONA DEPARTMENT OF MINERAL RESOURCES

The Department was creat e d to aid in the pr0m ;)tiAn. develc,pm ent, and conservation of the min- eral resources of the State. Particular emphasis is placed on providillg prospectors and small miners with semi-technical assistance arid economic information.

The general goal of the Deparnnent is developed by working with the follow ing obj ecti ves:

- Provide technical ass istance to prospectors and operators of small mines.

- Disseminate cqmprehensive-mini~g and rninet:alUnf()rm~ti:Qn:lo the citizens and government officials of Arizona counties.

- Study conditions regarding small mine activity and seek solutions to problems.

- Serve as the State's public bureau of mining and mineral informa t ion.

- Maintain and expand the Department's mine file library.

- Provide educational services in the field of mineral resources and mining.

- Analyze propf)S ed Federal and State administrative actions.

- Develop interagency cooperatir.:n between the Department and other local State and Federal offices.

- Gather all information available on mineral occurrences, prospects, partially developed properties and known mines in the State in order to promote furth e r exploration .

- Provide publications in the form of mineral reports, annual directories, technical reports, annual min-eral industry surveys, information circulars, and media articles.
