FASHION styling

DIPLOMA OF

Page 2: Diploma of Styling (Fashion, Image & Media)

Fashion Styling is now a popula-rised and emerging career path within the Australian and global

fashion industry. A Fashion Stylist typi-cally sources and organises outfits and accessories for a diversity of clients.

However, there is much more to a career in Fashion Styling than being able to put together an outfit. Stylists require a wide range of contemporary skills including

strong organisational, communication and networking skills, have a creative flair and eye for design and must stay up to date with the current fashion trends. Fashion Stylists generally work freelance, although Stylists can be employed by fashion labels, shopping centres, retail stores, publishing companies, model and advertising agen-cies, event management companies, just to name a few.

Studying Styling With UsThe Australian Institute of Creative Design has developed a specialised nationally recognised accredited qualification in Fashion Styling. Previously there has been no specialised training in this area, to enable students to learn the practical and contemporary skills required to work in in-dustry as a Stylist. Our styling trainers are experts in their field, they own their own businesses, are current freelance stylists, makeup artists, hair stylists or photogra-phers and each have extensive knowledge of the history and the current zeitgeist of the industry. The Diploma of Styling (Fash-ion, Image & Media) is a full time qualifi-cation that takes 1 year to complete. The Diploma is broken into four terms; each term is 9 weeks and includes three days of consecutive study. There is also a part time

study option available, which runs every Friday over 3 years.

Throughout the year students participate in over 8 diverse fashion photo-shoots in studio and on location including flat lays, editorial, and commercial. Students will work closely with celebrated indus-try photographers. Students partake in photo walks, wardrobe audits, fashion workshops, fashion market days and client makeovers, as well as an etiquette lunch and organise a large-scale runway parade. Practical excursions and guest speakers are also consistently planned into the yearly program. Guest speakers last year included Liz Golding, Georgia Rostagno (Brisbane Fashion Stylist), Joel Ritcy (Joel Richy Cosmetics), Sarah Hatten-Masterson,

Nick & Aicha (The Great Beyond), Tracey Mathers (Entrepreneur and Mentor — Develop The Star Within) and many more.

Upon finalisation of their Diploma, students will have created a large digital styling portfolio to show future clients and employers and add a diverse set of new resume experiences. They will have also created extensive networking and communication book of contacts and form strong friendships with their peers.  Grad-uating students will feel confident creating rapport with clients and industry profes-sionals. They will have cemented a strong fashion identity and understand the ever changing industry and have built strong personal and presenting skills.
