LICENSING REQUIREMENTS

Different state and territory jurisdictions have different regulatory requirements, you will need to check with yourrelevant state and territory licensing and regulatory authorities to determine your licensing requirements.

  In Tasmania, Queensland and Victoria: Building designers are regulated, with each state having its own regulations■

  In NSW: The Environmental Planning Assessment Act Regulation requires that an architect, or an accreditedbuilding designer, who designs, or immediately directs the design of the development, is required to follow the LowRise Medium Density Design Guide requirements for complying development.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

With 130 locations across the state, TAFE NSW tailors qualifications to meet the needs of the local community andspecific student groups (like apprentices, fast-tracked and online students). To make sure this course is the right fit foryou, we will need you to demonstrate that you can meet the additional requirements below.

This is a Smart and Skilled government subsidised course. To be able to enrol students must be eligible for Smart &Skilled and provide one of the following: Australian birth certificate or citizenship papers or passport that shows you areeither: an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, a humanitarian visa holder or a New Zealand citizen

To be able to enrol and obtain a student loan you must be academically suited to the course, and satisfy one of thefollowing:-provide a valid copy of your Senior Secondary Certificate of Education showing satisfactory completion of year 12 or

 achieve an exit level 3 in the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) assessment in both reading and numeracy (provided free for

applicants)

 provide a copy of an Australian qualification at AQF level 4 or higher or an overseas qualification verified as being equivalent by an

approved agency, and that the course was delivered in English

STUDY COMMITMENT

This is a part time evening course. You will need to attend approx 10.5 hours of class, 3 days a week, for 18 months. Aswell as the in-class component, you will need to complete approximately 4.5 hours of other study per week.

You may also be required to complete approximately 7.5 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours,including self directed learning that includes private research, assessment preparation, review of learning, and privatestudy.

IS THIS COURSE RIGHT FOR YOU?

This course delivery is designed for peopel who have a desire to work as a building designer or work in affiliated industryareas such as facilities management and property development. Success in this course can facilitate entry into mostarchitectural course at university.

Attendance is generally face to face in the classroom. Additionally once classes are running students will have theoption to participate via online classes delivered online using Microsoft Teams, i.e. students will have the option of eitherblended delivery online or face to face classes. Staff are able to guide students in how to access and use MicrosoftTeams software effectively.

WHAT DO THESE PRICES MEAN?

First Qualification Fee

Applies to a student who does not already hold a post-school qualification from any tertiary sector (TAFE, privateprovider or University), and includes any vocational (certificates, Diplomas, Advanced Diplomas) and higher education(degree) qualifications achieved in Australia or overseas previously.

Subsequent Qualification Fee

Applies to a student who already holds one or more post-school qualifications from any tertiary sector (TAFE, privateprovider or University), and includes any vocational (certificates, Diplomas, Advanced Diplomas) and higher education(degree) qualifications achieved in Australia or overseas previously.

Apprenticeship Fee

Eligible apprentices are exempt from fees when undertaking an apprenticeship under the NSW Government's Fee FreeApprenticeship. For apprentices who are not eligible, apprenticeship qualification fees are capped at $2,000.

SMART AND SKILLED FEES

This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to TAFE NSW and the NSWGovernment will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.

Depending on your previous qualifications and experience, your fee may be less than the maximum fee quoted. Youractual fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process.

PAYMENT OPTIONS AND ASSISTANCE

This course is approved for a Commonwealth VET Student Loan (VSL). If you meet the VSL eligibility and academicsuitability requirements, you are able to apply to the Commonwealth for a loan to cover all or part of your course fee. Wewill ask you whether you would like to apply for a VET Student Loan when you enrol and advise you of the process.

To complete your VET Student Loan application, you will need to provide:

 Your Tax File Number (TFN). If you dont have a TFN, click here for information on how to apply for one. You can complete your loan

application with a Certificate of Application for a TFN, but must provide your TFN as soon as it is issued. If you dont provide your TFN

before your first census day, you will need to pay the tuition fees for that unit of study.

 Your Commonwealth Higher Education Student Support Number (CHESSN) ). If you have previously accessed a loan via the Higher

Education Loan Program (HELP), either at TAFE or university, you will already have a CHESSN. You must use the same CHESSN

whenever you access a student loan. If you dont have CHESSN, we will allocate one on your behalf.

To be eligible for a VET Student Loan, you will need to be assessed as academically suitable to undertakehigh level VET study. You will need to provide:

 A copy of your Australian Year 12 Certificate; OR■

 A copy of a certificate showing that you have been awarded a qualification at level 4 or above in the Australian Qualifications

Framework (where the language of instruction was English). If you previously completed a Certificate IV or higher qualification at TAFE

NSW, just let us know where and when you studied in your application; OR

 Display competence at Exit Level 3 in the Australian Core Skills Framework in both reading and numeracy through an approved

Language, Literacy and Numeracy test. We will let you know if this is required once you apply.

If you intend to apply for a VET Student Loan, its important you know your student obligations.

Students will need a recent desktop or notebook computer that can open and save .doc files (Word) and to run the CADsoftware needed in the course. Graphisoft ArchiCAD is used and is available free to students. Minimium recommendedcomputer specifications are:

 System: Windows 10 (64-bit) / Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan■

 CPU: 64-bit processor with 4 or more cores. Note: Processors with 4-8+ cores are recommended to fully exploit ARCHICADs

performance capabilities.

 RAM: 8 GB RAM is recommended. 16 GB RAM is highly recommended.■

 Display: Resolution of 1440 x 900 is recommended.■

 Video Card: OpenGL 2.0 compatible graphics card with on-board memory of 1024 MB is recommended to fully exploit hardware

acceleration capabilities.
