St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church 281-463-7878 www.SeasCatholic.org From the Great Fathers From a homily on the Gospels by Pope St. Gregory the Great. I am the good shepherd. I know my own – by which I mean, I love them – and my own know me. In plain words: those who love me are willing to follow me, for anyone who does not love the truth has not yet come to know it. My dear brethren, you have heard the test we pastors have to undergo. Turn now to consider how these words of our Lord imply a test for yourselves also. Ask yourselves whether you belong to his flock, whether you know him, whether the light of his truth shines in your minds. I assure you that it is not by faith that you will come to know him, but by love; not by mere conviction, but by action. John the evangelist is my authority for this statement. He tells us that anyone who claims to know God without keeping his commandments is a liar. Consequently, the Lord immediately adds: As the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for my sheep. Clearly he means that laying down his life for his sheep gives evidence of his knowledge of the Father and the Father’s knowledge of him. In other words, by the love with which he dies for his sheep he shows how greatly he loves his Father. Again he says: My sheep hear my voice, and I know them; they follow me, and I give them eternal life. Shortly before this he had declared: If anyone enters the sheepfold through me he shall be saved; he shall go freely in and out and shall find good pasture. He will enter into a life of faith; from faith he will go out to vision, from belief to contemplation, and will graze in the good pastures of ever- lasting life. Continued on page 11...

Diocesan Services Fund - 2018 The Diocesan Services Fund (DSF) helps all of us fulfill Christ’s mission here on earth by supporting those programs and services that cannot be accomplished by one parish alone. More than 60 programs receive all or part of their funding from DSF and all funds are spent within Archdiocesan boundaries. The broad areas of ministry that receive DSF support include: Catholic educa-tion of children and adults; pastoral ministries for the sick, the poor and the incar-cerated; the formation and education of church leadership; social service pro-grams such as San José Clinic, St. Dominic Village and Catholic Charities. No funds are spent on general administrative expenses of the Chancery. A little over 4% of the funds are spent on the DSF appeal expenses. This percentage does not cover staff compensation expenses or supplies which are covered un-der general administrative expenses of the Chancery. DSF benefits your parish in many ways, from training and supporting Archdioce-san priests and deacons, to training pastoral councils and catechists, to support-ing the parish and school system and the many ministries within your parish. If your parish exceeds goal in payments, 50% of those funds over your goal are returned to your parish and 50% goes to the Aid to Poor Parishes Fund. With your gift to DSF you will receive a free subscription to the Texas Catholic Herald to help keep up with the activities and ministries of the Archdiocese and the Church worldwide. For more information, visit the Archdiocesan website at www.archgh.org/dsf and click on the DSF logo or call the Development Department at 713-652-4417.

Prayer for our Country

God, our Father, giver of life, We entrust our nation to your loving care. Your are the rock on which this nation was founded. You alone are the true source of our cherished rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Reclaim this land for your glory and dwell among your people. Send your spirit to touch the hearts of our nation’s leaders. Open their minds to the great worth of human life and the responsibilities that accompany human freedom. Remind your people that true happiness is rooted in seeking and do-ing your will. Through the intercession of Mary Immaculate, patroness of our land, grant us the courage to reject the “culture of death”. Lead us into a new millennium of life. We ask this through Christ, our Lord, Amen.

Continued from front page... So our Lord’s sheep will finally reach their grazing ground where all who follow him in simplicity of heart will feed on the green pastures of eternity. These pastures are the spir-itual joys of heaven. There the elect look upon the face of God with unclouded vision and feast at the banquet of life for ever more. Beloved brothers, let us set out for these pastures where we shall keep joyful festival with so many of our fellow citizens. May the thought of their happiness urge us on! Let us stir up our hearts, rekindle our faith, and long eagerly for what heaven has in store for us. To love thus is to be already on our way. No matter what obstacles we encounter, we must not allow them to turn us aside from the joy of that heaven-ly feast. Anyone who is determined to reach his destination is not deterred by the roughness of the road that leads to it. Nor must we allow the charm of success to seduce us, or we shall be like a foolish traveller who is so distracted by the pleasant meadows through which he is passing that he forgets where he is going.

Festival Dessert Booth Only with your contribution of cakes, cookies, pies etc. can the dessert booth be a success! Please call Aida Goloby at 281-345-9373 or 713-822-3754 or email at [email protected]. The baked goods can be dropped off on Saturday May 5th or Sunday May 6th. Anyone willing to help work the booth please call.

2018 Parish Fest ival

Dear SEAS Families, The 2018 International Spring Festival will be Saturday, May 5th and Sunday May 6th on the Parish grounds. We plan to pro-vide transportation to and from parking lots on both days this year. Thank you for the opportunity to serve another year as your Chair for this wonderful community event. We are looking forward to another fun filled Festival weekend. A very spe-cial thank you to all of our 2017 donors, volunteers, and attendees. Last year’s festival was a great success and we sincere-ly hope the 2018 festival will be even better. Our community is so very special in so many ways. I am always amazed at the continuous outpouring of generosity by our parish families and the community, whether in the form of time, talent or treas-ure. My family and I are humbled and blessed to be a part of this parish community. Please check the weekly bulletin and/or visit the Festival Webpage for more information at: www.seascatholicfestival.org (link is available through the parish website) for updates. Below I have listed the Festival meeting dates which have been scheduled. APRIL IS THE MONTH OF THE HOLY EUCHARIST Since the 16th century Catholic piety has assigned entire months to spe-cial devotions. The Church traditionally encouraged the month of April for increased devotion to Jesus in the Holy Eucharist. "The Church in the course of the centuries has introduced various forms of this Eucharistic worship which are ever increasing in beauty and help-fulness; as, for example, visits of devotion to the tabernacles, even every day; Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament; solemn processions, espe-cially at the time of Eucharistic Congresses, which pass through cities and villages; and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament publicly ex-posed . . . These exercises of piety have brought a wonderful increase in faith and supernatural life to the Church militant upon earth and they are re-echoed to a certain extent by the Church triumphant in heaven, which sings continually a hymn of praise to God and to the Lamb 'Who was slain.'" --Pope Pius XII To dedicate an hour of prayer before the Lord in the Blessed Sacra-ment, please see the announcement on page 7.
