If you’re a local and you haven’t frequented the Whistle Post Tavern, then you’re either new to town or you’ve been living under a rock. If you’ve been, but not in some time, pay a visit soon.

It really is a charming spot that serves up good, classic grill fare. It’s definitely not your typical pub food. Along-side the spectacular burgers, wings and nachos, the Whistle Post has terrific salads; the Mediterranean with blackened salmon is a personal favorite. Their menu also has many Hearty Healthy selections that don’t skimp on taste.

The bar abounds with refreshing libations, pome-granate margarita or red velvet glotini anyone?! There’s always something interesting going down at the tavern. Monday night is the ever popular team trivia. Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays feature Texas Hold ‘Em poker. Thursday is Ladies’ Night and Karaoke, and on Fridays there is live music followed by a DJ spinning tunes on Saturday evenings. Monday through Friday they offer Happy Hour specials from 4-6pm. Just visit their web site to see a complete line-up of activities and bands.

On Sundays, there’s a fantastic brunch menu that includes a wonderful Crab Benedict, as well as the traditional version, omelets and even beignets, not to mention a Bloody Mary bar to accompany the fine food. The Tavern is very accommodating to large groups, and you can even host your next big birthday party, shower, retirement function or reunion there.

Be aware of a quaint tradition. As the passing trains blow their whistle at the Conyers Street crossing, join the gang and salute the train with a Whistle Post shooter.
