EVENT DESCRIPTION

Dimanche Rouge is a monthly contemporary art event based in Paris, France, showcasing experimental art performances by international artists. Dimanche Rouge has established both an international venue for experi-mental artists and an event with groundbreaking perfor-mances for the general and specialized public to disco-ver.

In addition, Dimanche Rouge offers workshops to the community, promotes artists by providing an array of support materials and publications, and organizes per-formance art events internationally.

A growing buzz is enveloping this event with the par-ticipation of over one hundred artists from twenty-four different countries in its six monthly editions. A special seventh edition of Dimanche Rouge will take place si-multaneously in several international cities with strea-med performances from Paris, Kiev, Zaporizhya, Sofia, Berlin, Manhattan, Brooklyn, Utah, Santiago de Chile, Wenzhou in China and Brisbane and Castelmaine in Australia.

A wide array of performances including multimedia, audiovisual, sound, graffiti, performance art, actions, dance, body art, interventions, and spoken word have been on the program. In addition, experimental perfor-mers whose work is not generally seen at art events, such as masseurs, coiffures, and chefs are welcomed to perform, with the public often having an interactive role in their performances.

Finally, Dimanche Rouge exhibits installations, videos, photographs, and paintings by artists performing at the event. Dimanche Rouge is held over two consecutive days every third weekend of the month at two diffe-rent venues, the Petit Bain, an art space on a barge moored on the Seine and the Noo-Tek, a 1,200 square meter former iron foundry recently converted into an art gallery. The main event takes place on Sundays at the Petit Bain, and consists of a curated selection of performances programmed from 3pm until midnight.

Also at the Petit Bain, artists teach workshops for the general public on Saturdays. At the Noo Tek, Diman-che Rouge organizes art labs, round tables, and deba-tes with the participation of artists, art critics, scholars and the general public on Saturdays from 3pm until midnight. All the events have a virtual dimension with participants teaching, debating, and performing via live video, streaming from all over the world.

Over one hundred artists from different disciplines have participated over the course of the six editions of Dimanche Rouge. Artists came from Algeria, Argen-tina, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Israel, Italy, Japan, Mexico, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Russia, South Ko-rea, Spain, the UK, Ukraine, and the USA.

Some of the performances featured at Dimanche Rouge :

French collective 1minute69, that brought interac-tivity and motion tracking to the edge with the use of Kinect.

Polish doctor and senior researcher in Quantum Chemistry and Theoretical Biophysics at the University of Heidelberg Agnieszka Bronowska presented her audiovisual narrative performance exploring the role of masks in daily life.

Indian artist VEHF performed a livecoding act, showcasing an innovative way to produce sound art.

the American Angie Eng and the French Sofi He-mon collaborated in the live production of sculptu-res to be mapped with specialized software.

the Italian collective Teatro Deluxe performed its series of still/videos combined with a street inter-vention.

PUBLIC

Dimanche Rouge seeks to bring experimental art to as wide and diverse audience as possible by creating an event that is free and open to the public, by not limiting our advertising and networking efforts to the traditional art-going public, and by presenting a truly diverse program.

Dimanche Rouge’s public is international just like the team organizing the event. People from different nationalities attend our event given the nature of our own networks and our outreach with the local cultural institutions of the artists’ countries.

DOCUMENTATION AND ARTISTS’ PROMOTION

In addition to providing a venue for artists to perform and expand their networks, Dimanche Rouge documents and promotes its artists’ work.Dimanche Rouge interviews participating artists in written and video formats during or after the events.

These interviews are conducted in the artist’s original language with an En-glish and a French version. Interviews in both the text and video formats are published on Dimanche Rouge’s website and submitted to specialized printed and online publications. Dimanche Rouge is currently working on the produc-tion of a DVD series documenting every edition of our festival. The DVDs will contain documentation of the performances as well as interviews with the artists.

PARTNERSHIPS AND COLLABORATIONS

Dimanche Rouge is actively building an international network of partnerships and collaborations. Dimanche Rouge is an official partner with the audiovisual festi-val Visual Brasil, the VJ festival VJFest from Turkey, VJ London from the UK, the streaming festival Low-Lives from NYC, the Chilean Performance Art Bienal Deformes, the Brooklyn-based Performance Art lab and performance space Panoply Lab, and the Austra-lian Performance Festival Exist.

These collaborations primarily generate creative dia-logues via live streaming including workshops, de-bates, collaborative performances, and round tables. Dimanche Rouge also exchanges resources, fosters artistic collaborations,and intends to establish an artist residency/exchange program. Future Dimanche Rouge editions are planned for Ukraine in December 2011, Mexico in February 2012 and China in April 2012.

An international team of artists and professionals organi-zes Dimanche Rouge on a volunteer basis, assisted by a group of interns and supporters. Most of us are associa-ted with universities either as teachers or students. Our team is notably polyglot, able to fluently communicate in several languages including Bulgarian, Chinese, English, French, German, Italian, Russian, Spanish, Ukrainian, and Vietnamese.

Dimanche Rouge is organized by the not-for-profit asso-ciation Ti115, dedicated to promoting the work of experi-mental artists.

DESCRIPTION DE L’EVENEMENT

La très spéciale septième édition de Dimanche Rouge se déroula simultanément dans plusieurs villes interna-tionales, avec des performances retransmises depuis Paris, Kiev, Zaporizhya, Sofia, Berlin, Manhattan, Brooklyn dans l’Utah, Santiago du Chili, Wenzhou en Chine, Brisbane et Castelmaine en Australie.

Dimanche Rouge est un événement d’art contemporain mensuel basé à Paris, France, présentant des perfor-mances expérimentales réalisées par des artistes in-ternationaux. Dimanche Rouge est à la fois un espace international pour des artistes expérimentaux et un évé-nement avec des performances révolutionnaires à faire découvrir par le grand public et le milieu professionnel.

D’autre part, Dimanche Rouge propose des ateliers au public, contribue à la promotion des artistes en leur fournissant une large gamme de matériel et des publi-cations. Enfin, Dimanche Rouge organise au niveau international d’autres événements de performances artistiques. Un buzz croissant recouvre cet événement auquel ont participé plus de cent artistes de vingt-qua-tre pays différents lors de ses six précédentes éditions.

Art multimédia, audiovisuel, son, graffitis, performance artistique, happening, danse, art corporel, interven-tions, et poésie figurent au programme chaque mois, entre autres. D’autre part, les artistes expérimentaux dont le travail n’est généralement pas présenté lors d’événements artistiques, tels que masseurs, coiffeurs et chefs-cuisiniers sont invités à exposer leurs talents au public, lequel a souvent un rôle interactif dans leurs performances.

Enfin, Dimanche Rouge organise des expositions de vidéos, photographies et peintures d’artistes partici-pant à l’événement. Dimanche Rouge se déroule sur deux jours consécutifs tous les troisièmes week-ends du mois dans deux lieux différents, le Petit Bain, un espace d’art sur une péniche amarrée aux quais de la Seine, et la Noo-Tek, une ancienne fonderie d’acier de 1200 mètres carrés récemment transformée en galerie d’art. L’événement principal a lieu le dimanche au Petit Bain, et se compose d’une sélection de performances programmées à partir 15 heures et ce jusqu’à minuit.

Également au Petit Bain, des artistes proposent, le samedi, un enseignement au grand public sous forme d’ateliers. A la Noo-Tek, Dimanche Rouge organise laboratoires d’art, tables rondes et débats avec la par-ticipation d’artistes, de critiques d’art, d’universitaires et du grand public le samedi, de 15 heures jusqu’à mi-nuit. Tous les événements ont une dimension virtuelle avec des participants qui enseignent, débattent, et font des spectacles par vidéo en direct, retransmis dans le monde entier.

Plus d’une centaine d’artistes, toutes disciplines confondues, ont participé au cours des six premières éditions de Dimanche Rouge; des artistes venus d’Al-gérie, d’Argentine, d’Autriche, de Belgique, du Brésil, de Bulgarie, de Chine, de France, d’Allemagne, d’Inde, d’Indonésie, d’Israël, d’Italie, du Japon, du Mexique, des Pays-Bas, de Pologne, du Portugal, de Russie, de Corée du Sud, d’Espagne, du Royaume-Uni, d’Ukraine et des Etats-Unis.

Quelques-uns des spectacles présentés au Dimanche Rouge :

Le collectif français 1minute69, qui a amené l’inte-ractivité entre le corps et la vidéo par la technique de Vidéo Motion avec l’utilisation de Kinect.

Agnieszka Bronowska, polonaise, Docteur et directri-ce de recherches en Chimie quantique et Biophy-sique théorique à l’Université de Heidelberg, a présenté sa performance narrative audiovisuelle ex-plorant le rôle des masques dans la vie quotidienne.

L’artiste indien VEHF a accompli un acte de codage, présentant une façon novatrice de produire de l’art sonore.

Angie Eng, américaine, et Sofi Hémon, française, ont collaboré à la production en direct de sculptures car-tographiées avec des logiciels spécialisés.

Le collectif italien Teatro Deluxe a réalisé une série combinée de corps fixes / vidéos dans une interven-tion de rue.

PUBLIC

Dimanche Rouge cherche à amener l’art expérimental à un public aussi large et diversifié que possible en créant un événement gratuit et ouvert à tous, en ne limitant pas ses efforts de promotion et de gestion des réseaux Internet à un public traditionnel d’amateurs d’art, et en présentant un programme vérita-blement diversifié.

Le public de Dimanche Rouge est international, tout comme l’équipe organi-satrice de l’événement. Des personnes de toutes nationalités assistent à notre événement, compte tenu de la nature de nos propres réseaux et de notre rayonnement auprès des institutions culturelles locales des pays d’origine des artistes.

DOCUMENTATION ET PROMOTION DES ARTISTES

En plus de fournir un lieu pour que les artistes se produisent et dévelop-pent leurs réseaux, Dimanche Rouge documente et promotionne le travail de ses artistes. Dimanche Rouge réalise des interviews auprès des artistes participants sous forme écrite et vidéo pendant ou après les événements. Ces interviews sont menées dans la langue d’origine de l’artiste, puis traduites en Anglais et en Français.

Les interviews, à la fois texte et vidéo, sont publiées sur le site internet de Di-manche Rouge et soumises à des publications spécialisées sur papier et en ligne. Dimanche Rouge travaille actuellement sur la production d’une série de DVD documentant chaque édition du festival. Les DVD contiendront la docu-mentation sur les performances ainsi que les interviews des artistes.

PARTENARIATS ET COLLABORATIONS

Dimanche Rouge construit de façon active un réseau international de partenariats et de collaborations. Dimanche Rouge est partenaire officiel du festival audiovisuel Visual Brasil, du festival de VJing VJFest en Turquie, du VJ London au Royaume-Uni, du festi-val Lowlives de New York City, du Chilean Performan-ce Art Biennal Deformes, du laboratoire Performance Art et de l’espace de performances Panoply Lab ba-sés à Brooklyn, ainsi que du Festival australien Exist.

Ces collaborations génèrent essentiellement des dia-logues créatifs via streaming en direct, incluant ate-liers, débats, performances collaboratives, et tables rondes. Dimanche Rouge échange également des ressources, favorise les collaborations artistiques, et projette de fonder un programme d’échanges de résidences d’artistes. Dimanche Rouge est organisé par une équipe internatio-nale d’artistes et de professionnels, sur la base du bé-névolat, assistés par un groupe de stagiaires et de sym-pathisants. La plupart d’entre nous est associée à des universités, comme enseignants ou comme étudiants.
