The dilemma.

Meet Mr. and Mrs. Evans.

20 years ago, they were married and Mr. Evans told his wife that she need not work as his job provided

more than enough money for both of them.

“ I just want you to be happy Darling and help raise our children” said Joe Evans to his wife Claire.

Page 6: Dilemma speaking and listening

Every month, Joe wrote a cheque for Claire and she provided him with all the warmth, food and affection.

The two children grew into happy, wonderful people.

2012…..

Joe came home early from work.

He found a letter in the letterbox.

Page 9: Dilemma speaking and listening

He wandered into the garden to read the letter.

Although it was addressed to Mrs. C. Evans, he had no reason to think it was private.

Joe’s first thoughts !

“ Wow ! What a surprise…Claire has bought a house !...

She must have come into an inheritance….”

Page 12: Dilemma speaking and listening

Later that afternoon…

Joe told Claire how happy he was that they now had TWO houses.

Claire poured him a glass of wine.

Page 13: Dilemma speaking and listening

“ I’ve got something to tell you…”

Page 14: Dilemma speaking and listening

What could it be ?

Page 15: Dilemma speaking and listening

“It’s not OUR house, Joe….it’s mine !”

Page 16: Dilemma speaking and listening

Joe replied….

“ Where did you get the money from to buy another house?”

Page 17: Dilemma speaking and listening

Claire explained that…

She had been saving and putting aside a little bit each month from the money that Joe had given her.

With the savings she had bought a house in her own name.

Page 18: Dilemma speaking and listening

Joe exclaimed……

“ That was my money !

The house rightfully belongs to me…..”

Page 19: Dilemma speaking and listening

Claire calmly replied…

“ I provided you and our children with

all they needed…….

If I managed to save money, it was because I

was a good housewife.

The house is my reward.

SEE YOU IN COURT !”

Dilemma…

Whose house is

it ?

Page 21: Dilemma speaking and listening

What do you need to consider?

Write down the points that need discussing.

If you think the house is Claire’s go and join her group.

Do the same if you think the house belongs to Joe.

Prepare your arguments.

Page 22: Dilemma speaking and listening

So, can we hear the counsel for Mr. Evans ?

Page 23: Dilemma speaking and listening

Page 25: Dilemma speaking and listening

Who does the house belong to ?

The jury is made up of ‘a few good men and women’

They must now leave the room

and decide.

The decision may not happen for a

while….!Joe because….. Claire because……
