1 Area of applicability

These safety instructions apply to the differential pressure transmitters series DPT-10-AG-5/4****-

*********-** according to EG type approval certificate TÜV 09 ATEX 555425 X (certificate number onthe type label) and for all instruments with the number of the safety instruction (36658) on the typelabel.

2 General information

The pressure measuring instruments DPT-10-AG-5/4****-*********-** are also used for differentialpressure measurement in hazardous areas.

The measured products can also be combustible liquids, gases, mist or vapour.

DPT-10-AG-5/4****-*********-** consist of an electronics housing with integrated electronics moduleDF60*, a process fitting element and a sensor, the differential pressure measuring cell.

Electronics module DF60 is built into DPT-10-AG-5****-*********-** and electronics module DF60FF

into DPT-10-AG-4****-*********-**.

The indicating and adjustment module can be mounted optionally.

The DPT-10-AG-5/4****-*********-** are suitable for use in hazardous atmospheres of all combustiblematerials of explosion group IIA, IIB and IIC for applications requiring instruments of category 1G,

category 1/2G or category 2G.

If the DPT-10-AG-5/4****-*********-** are installed and operated in hazardous areas, the general Exinstallation regulations EN 60079-14 as well as these safety instructions must be observed.

The operating instructions as well as the applicable, valid Ex mounting regulations and standards forelectrical equipment must be observed.

The installation of explosion-endangered systems must always be carried out by qualified personnel.

2.1 Category 1G instruments

The DPT-10-AG-5/4****-*********-** are installed in hazardous areas requiring instruments of category1G.

2.2 Category 1/2G instruments

In applications as category 1/2G instrument, DPT-10-AG-5/4****-*********-** are installed in theseparating wall separating the sections from each other in which category 2G or 1G instruments arerequired. The electronics housing is in the hazardous area requiring a category 2G instrument andthe sensor is in the hazardous area requiring a category 1G instrument.

2.3 Category 2G instruments

The DPT-10-AG-5/4****-*********-** are installed in hazardous areas requiring instruments of category2G.

3 Technical data

3.1 Electrical data

The circuits of DPT-10-AG-5/4****-*********-** with integrated electronics module DF60PA or DF60FFare intrinsically safe circuits. The electronics module DF60FF distinguishes from electronics moduleDF60PA by the BUS data format and an equipped simulation selection switch in the electronicsmodule DF60FF.

Power supply and signal circuit: (terminals1[+], 2[-] in electronics compartment; withdouble chamber housing version in connec-tion compartment)

In ignition protection type intrinsic safety Ex ia IIC/IIB

for instruments of category 1G or 1/2G and Ex ia IIC/

IIB resp. Ex ib IIC/IIB for instruments of category 2G.

For connection to a certified, intrinsically safe circuit.Maximum values:Ui = 17.5 V

Ii = 500 mA

Pi = 5.5 W

The instrument is suitable for connection to aFieldbus system according to the FISCO model(EN 60079-27), e.g. Profibus PA.

or:Ui = 24 V

Ii = 250 mA

Pi = 1.2 W

The effective internal capacitance is Ci = 5 nF.The effective internal inductance is Li ≤ 5 µH.

Circuit between sensor unit and remoteprocessing unit

In ignition protection type intrinsic safety Ex ia IIC

With DPT-10-AG-5/4****-*********-** in the versionwith fix mounted cable on the sensor unit andexternal processing unit, the supplied cable betweenthe processing unit and the sensor unit must notexceed a length of 47 m.

Indicating and adjustment circuit: (terminals5, 6, 7, 8 in the electronics compartment orplug connection with double chamber hous-ing version)

In ignition protection type intrinsic safety Ex ia IIC

Only for connection to the intrinsically safe supplyand signal circuit of the corresponding externalindicating and adjustment unit (PTB 05ATEX 2020X).

The regulations for the interconnection of intrinsicallysafe circuits between DPT-10-AG-5/4****-*********-**

and the external indication and adjustment unit arecomplied with if the total inductance and totalcapacity of the connection cable between DPT-10-

AG-5/4****-*********-** and the external indication andadjustment unit Lwire = 100 µH and Cwire = 2.8 µF arenot exceeded. The indication and adjustment moduleintegrated in DPT-10-AG-5/4****-*********-** and theconnected interface converter are taken into account.

Circuit of the indicating and adjustmentmodule: (spring contacts in the electronicscompartment; with double chamber housingversion also in the connection compartment)

In ignition protection type intrinsic safety Ex ia IIC

Only for connection to the indicating and adjustmentmodule.With the double chamber housing version, theindicating and adjustment module may be mountedeither in the electronics compartment or in theconnection compartment.

The intrinsically supply and signal circuit is galvanically separated from parts that can be grounded.

The metallic parts of the DPT-10-AG-5/4****-*********-** are electrically connected with the earthterminals.

For applications requiring instruments of category 2G, the intrinsically safe power supply and signalcircuit can correspond to protection class ia or ib. For connection to a circuit with protection class ib,the ignition protection type identification is Ex ib IIC T6.

For applications requiring instruments of category 1G or category 1/2G, the intrinsically safe powersupply and signal circuit must correspond to protection class ia.

For applications requiring instruments of category 1G or 1/2G the DPT-10-AG-5/4****-*********-** ispreferably connected to appropriate equipment with galvanically isolated, intrinsically safe circuits.

4 Application conditions

The max. permissible ambient temperatures depending on the temperature classes are specified inthe following tables.

Category 1G instruments

For applications under explosive atmosphere requiring instruments of category 1G the processpressure of the media must be between 0.8 … 1.1 bar. With the stated permissible ambienttemperatures the 80 % consideration of section 6.4.2/EN 1127-1 is taken into account. Thepermissible operating temperatures and pressures for operation are stated in the manufacturerinformation.

When the sensor is exposed to an explosive atmosphere in applications requiring instruments ofcategory 1/2G, the pressure of the media must be between 0.8 … 1.1 bar. If the DPT-10-AG-5/

4****-*********-** are operated at temperatures higher than those specified in the above table,please make sure through appropriate measures that there is no danger of ignition from the hotsurfaces. The maximum temperature on the electronics/housing should not exceed the valuesspecified in the above table. The permissible operating temperatures and pressures for operationcan be found in the manufacturer information.

If the DPT-10-AG-5/4****-*********-** are operated at temperatures higher than those specified inthe above table, please make sure through appropriate measures that there is no danger of ignitionfrom the hot surfaces. The max. permissible temperature on the electronics/housing should notexceed the values specified in the above table. The permissible operating temperatures andpressures are stated in the manufacturer information.

5 Protection against static electricity

The DPT-10-AG-5/4****-*********-** in versions with electrostatically chargeable plastic parts, such ase.g. plastic housing, metal housing with inspection window or connection cable with the separatedversion, have a caution label pointing out the safety measures that must be taken with regard toelectrostatic charges during operation.

6 Use of an overvoltage arrester

On request the DPT-10-AG-5/4****-*********-** can be provided with an overvoltage arrester.

When the DPT-10-AG-5/4****-*********-** is used as category 1G instrument, a suitable overvoltagearrester must be provided according to EN 60079-14 as protection against overvoltages.

The DPT-10-AG-5/4****-*********-** do not require overvoltage measures according to EN 60079-14

when used as category 1/2G.

7 Grounding

DPT-10-AG-5/4****-*********-**must be electrostatically (transition resistance ≤ 1 MΩ) grounded, e.g.via a ground connection terminal.

8 Impact and friction sparks

When used as category 1G or 1/2G instruments, the DPT-10-AG-5/4****-*********-** in aluminium/

titanium versions must be mounted in such a way that sparks from impact and friction betweenaluminium/titanium and steel (except stainless steel, if the presence of rust particles can beexcluded) cannot occur.

9 Material resistance

The DPT-10-AG-5/4****-*********-** must only be used in media against which the materials of thewetted parts are sufficiently resistant.
