REPUBLIC OF SERBIA: CURRENT SITUATION (1) • The entire territory of Serbia has:

- 8 allotments for digital television covering the entire territory

1 DVB-Т allotment in VHF band

7 DVB-Т allotments in UHF band

- 2 Т-DAB allotments in VHF band

• Belgrade metropolitan area with additional 6 DVB-Т allotments in UHF band

• Southeast part of the territory with 1-2 additional DVB-Т allotments

REPUBLIC OF SERBIA: CURRENT SITUATION (2)

• In line with the technological development at the time:

– In one television channel, instead of one analogue programme there is a multiplex with 4-6 studio quality programmes, that is 32-48 TV programmes with national coverage (compared with seven incomplete at the moment)

– One frequency block in Т-DAB provides for 6-8 CD quality stereo programmes, that is 12-16 radio programmes with national coverage (compared with eight incomplete at the moment)

– Belgrade metropolitan area to be covered with 56-84 ТV programmes (including national)

Pursuant to the public competition carried out by the Republic

Broadcasting Agency (RBA), in the period 2006-2013

broadcasting permits were issued to:

• 5 (4) TV and 5 radio networks (257 (218) transmitters) with national coverage,

• 6 (3) TV networks and 18 (18) radio stations for Belgrade city area,

• 1 (0)TV and 1 radio network for the territory of Vojvodina,

• 27 (23) TV and 27 radio stations with regional coverage,

• 115 (76) TV and 296 (263) radio stations with local coverage,

• 1 extended initial network for digital broadcasting (DVB- T2, MPEG-4, 35 transmitters)

- video signal compression standard ITU-T H.264/АVC (MPEG-4 ver. 10).

Media Strategy (The Strategy for the Development of the Mass

Communication System in the Republic of Serbia until 2016 – the

Government of the Republic of Serbia) stipulates adoption of the

following laws, as well:

• Law on Electronic Media;

• Law on Public Media Services;

• Law on Mass Communication.

•Planned adoption by the Parliament of the Republic of Serbia - Q1/ 2014.
