With one month guaranteed remaining in the season, the CUW Men’s Basketball team will need to play a strong month of basketball to hold their spot in the NACC standings and prepare for the conference tournament.

3rd: The Falcons currently sit third in the NACC standings with a 9-6 conference record entering the month of February. CUW holds a one game lead over MSOE who sits in fourth place and 1.5 games over Wisconsin Lutheran who is in fifth. The Falcons defeated MSOE in late January at home and they have a rematch with Wisconsin Lutheran in a crucial game next Tuesday February 9 at home at 7 pm.

5: CUW has five regular season games remaining, all against conference opponents. Three of the five opponents the Falcons already defeated earlier in the season. CUW topped Marian on the road 83-79 back in November, handled Edgewood 94-54 at the beginning of January and most recently defeated Concordia Chicago 98-69 in the first round of CIT last weekend. However, they fell to both Wisconsin Lutheran and Aurora each by one basket in the fi-nal seconds.

20: Senior guard Taron Edwards (Racine, Wis.) be-came the first Falcon this season to post back-to-back 20+ scoring games. Edwards posted 21 points off the bench in CUW’s 86-74 win over Rockford on January 23 and added six assists and six steals

to his impressive outing. The following game, Ed-wards dropped 22 points in the Falcon’s 87-74 win at rival Lakeland. Edwards also pulled in seven re-bounds and added three assists on the night.

22: The Falcons stole 22 passes against Rockford on January 23, the most passes CUW has stolen in a game since December 4, 2007 at Rockford when they recorded 21 thefts. Edwards recorded six steals, junior guard Eric Kittel (Brillion, Wis.) stole five passes and senior forward James Mitchell (St. Louis, Mo.) added four steals to the record breaking defensive performance.

47: Kittel is only 47 points away from becoming the second Falcon this season to reach 1,000 career points. Senior forward Keith Kahlfeldt (New Berlin, Wis.) became the 14th player in program history to reach the 1,000 point plateau back on January 14 at Wisconsin Lutheran. Kittel and Kahlfeldt would be-come the second pair of teammates, in the NCAA era, to reach 1,000 points in the same season.

72.9: The Falcons defense has been ever improving since the beginning of the New Year, holding their opponents to 72.9 points per game, compared to the start of the season when they were allowing 77 points through the first 10 games. CUW has held opponents to mid-20’s and low 30s in a half on mul-tiple occasions this season.
