This manual going to teach you guy about how digital camera works; the ratio and megapixels setting on your camera; and how to download images from your camera. It is also going to talk about save for web feature in Photoshop. By: Khaja OmerDate: 11/12/14

Digital CameraDigital camera is not an old kind of camera. It is very different from a camera. Digital camera captures the image using pixels like that are used in our latest monitors. This kind of camera is better because you can download and print the images much faster and easier; also because this camera can take more sharper(more pixel count).They are easy to carry and operate. However they might have bigger file sizes depending on megapixels, which make it harder to upload on web, email, etc. You need to downsample the image to use it on web.

Less Pixel Count High Pixel Count

Ratio and MegapixelsIn a digital camera you will come across an option of ratio and megapixels. There are two common ratios: 4:3 & 16:9. This basically means that an image is 4/16 pixels wide and 3/9 pixels tall.The quality and file size of the image is measured in megapixels.So the setting option in the camera allows the user to capture images in different quality and different size(ratio).

Downloading Images1. Take the download cord and attach it to the

camera.2. Now attach the download cord to the

computer.3. After you do this, a window will pop up and

it will have several options.4. Select the one that says open folder.5. After the window opens up select the

picture you need.6. Then on your keyboard press Ctrl+C or right

click on the mouse and select copy.7. Now you can go to the folder where you

want to put the pictures.8. Now you can press Ctrl+V or right click on

the mouse and select paste to download the selected images.

9. Then remove the download cord from both computer and camera, and you are all done.

Best Practice for Web• It is necessary that you edit and

optimize digital images to get efficient loading time in web.• If the size is too big, images will take

too long to load on web.• The size of the image should be less

then 800 pixels wide or 700 pixels tall for web.• Resolution should be 72.• You need manually downsample if

the phone or any other device does not do that for you to upload in web.• Downsample means to reducing the

number of pixels in an image.

How To Save For Web1. First you need to have a picture open in

Photoshop.2. Then you need to go on the top where it say

file and click.3. Now look for the option which says save for

web.4. You encounter various option when the

window open.5. Look for the option which says images size.6. Once you find it, you will have option to

change the width and height.7. As I said in the previous page your picture

needs to be less than 800 pixels wide and 700 tall.

8. If your image is large, than that you need to downsample that by simply clicking on the (W) or(H) and change the number to the number showed above.

9. After you do that the final step is to click save and go to the folder you want to save the picture in, and finally save it.

10. Now you are all done.

How To Name Digital Images

• The name of the file should be in lowercase.• The most important things that you need be

included in the file name:1) Assignment or topics name.2) The year or semester the image was captured.3) And the name or initials of the guy how look

the picture.• To prevent white spacing separate the parts of

the file by dashes.1) Dashes are used instead of underscores

because underscores do not show up in link.2) Example:(these-are-dashes) and

(these_are_underscores)3) White space in file names will be filled in with

%20.• Characters never should be used:*&^%$#@!.• Never use forward/ or back\ slashes in file

names.
