Located in Lake Zurich, IL, in the northwest suburbs of Chicago

Serves a population of around 33,000 out of a 70,000 square foot building

Circulates over 1 million items per year

EAPL DIGITAL MEDIA LABS

Opened December 14, 2011

2 small suites built out of what was a closet – each with identical equipment and around 10’x10’

Funded with retained earnings

Costs were approx. $67,000, which included a lot of construction. Equipment alone cost around $18,000.

EAPL DIGITAL MEDIA LABS

The Labs were added without additional staff members

Managed and checked in and out by the Adult Reference Desk

Use is limited to Ela cardholdersages 12 and up (younger patrons mayuse the Labs with a parent)

EAPL DIGITAL MEDIA LABS

Labs may be reserved up to one week in advance

Reservations are taken over the phone, in person, via e-mail, and via instant messaging

Labs may be used up to 3 hours at a time

Help is by appointment only

PATRON USE AND RESPONSE

The Labs were used over 1000 times in their first year

This year, we’ve averaged 75-100 uses per month

Labs are used by all ages

Patron response has been overwhelmingly positive!

Look for experience/training in graphic arts, video production, audio production, or multimedia.

Check out your local art school for possible college majors
