The Pennsylvania Library Association’sPR & Marketing Committee
The PR & Marketing Committee is excited to once again share adigital media focused calendar with you for 2021.
The Digital Media Calendar can be used to plan events and displaysthroughout the year. The calendar can also help you earn yourPA Forward™ Gold Star, as each event highlights one of the fiveliteracies.
Once a quarter, the PR & Marketing Committeewill release content kits featuring web content; sample social mediacontent; program ideas; additional resources; and free graphics.
New this year are Advocacy Tips to help you promote your libraryto stakeholders and community advocates throughout the year. Eachmonth has a featured tip, and the last page of the Calendar featuresa list of actions you can take to further promote the great worklibraries are doing across the state.

Advocacy Action TipsJANUARYAt January’s board mee�ng, present the schedule of municipal and county mee�ngs and ask the board to sign upto represent the library at all of them.
FEBRUARYDeliver the library’s program calendar to elected officials’ offices and repeat every month.
MARCHSchedule a visit for the director, board members and friends to your state Representa�ve or Senator’s office this monthto speak to them about the important role that State Aid fills in your library’s ac�vi�es, and what you could do with more funds.
APRILFor Na�onal Library Week, ask an elected official to pose with their favorite book and share their bio and book reviewon social media or in a newsle�er. Or film a short video with them to share out via social media.
MAYA�end a community group mee�ng to share the news of all the library is doing in support of the residents and empower othersin the group to share their posi�ve library experiences with stakeholders as well.
JUNEWith Summer Reading and summer fundraisers approaching, share invita�ons to events throughout the summer with yourelected officials and key stakeholders.
JULYCapture the library experiences from parents while their children are a�ending a summer program.Ask if their story can be usedto publicize the good work the library does and �e it in with end of summer repor�ng.
AUGUSTAs you look back over the summer’s programming and events, think about how they �e into your mission and vision.Choose one or two things that really stood out to you as classic moments and reach out to your stakeholders to share whatthey were and why they are so important.
SEPTEMBERAs elec�on season gears up, send a handwri�en thank you note to an elected official a�er a town hall mee�ng for beingtransparent in their objec�ves.
OCTOBERAs elec�on season heats up, meet with a candidate for municipal office, and ask them about their library experiences.Tie their stories to opportuni�es they have to get involved at your library and ask them to share with their friends and neighbors.
NOVEMBERAs municipal budgets are being set, invite library users to share their favorite library moments with you.Present their stories with their name, age and photo (with their permission) at the budget hearings.
DECEMBERChallenge everyone on staff to think of the patrons as secret shoppers, and work hard to make sure that everyone leavesthinking they received top notch service.
